My, are they fighting the natives for their millions
Shouldn’t these 21st-century plunderers of the native colonies have a little more respect for the Maltese electorate off whose backs they expect to drain millions?
The Opposition represents the electorate’s interests. Henley & Partners is merely concerned with its own interests.
Having entered into a deal with the tribal chief to buy large tracts of land containing gold mines for a casket of beads and two bolts of cloth, they are concerned to see that the natives are turning nasty and are firing up their cauldron with intent.
Joseph Muscat said in parliament a week ago that he doesn’t go down on his knees to foreigners because that’s what he was taught. But he sure as hell goes down on his knees to money, and to foreigners who have it or the promise of it.

Henley & Something claims that they have been informing potential investors about the Opposition’s warning. Well, that warning did not feature in the reply to a reader’s request here:
http://daphnecaruanagalizia.com/2014/01/henley-partnersthe-government-of-malta-are-selling-passports-already-with-an-announcement-of-the-official-market-launch/
Have they acquired the habits of the prime minister already?
On what authority is Henley rendering this opinion?
As a Maltese legal practitioner? Or Maltese government authority? Or European Commission spokesperson? Or are they only mindful of their own financial interest?
The latter.
Henley and partners is a business. That is why the passport-sale setup is wrong. Their motivation is not to safeguard Malta’s interests, but to pursue their own.
In the inevitable case where there is a conflict between Malta’s interest and Henley & Partners’ profit, the latter will take priority.
Apparently besides selling residence and citizenship, they do insurance, property and now legal advice also.
I wonder when they intend to set up a legal office in Malta.
Someone said it before here: Henley & Everything.
Tax avoidance is the main line of business. All other services flow from there.

Very interesting link. Thank you.
As ‘It all stinks’ says in a comment on another blog-post, Henley and Partners registered a real estate company in Malta at the end of May, 11 weeks after the elections.
This means that at the time, they already knew about the cash-for-passports scheme and knew they would be handling it.
Everything Muscat has done since the election is a charade.
Antoine, kollox costed kien.
A charade from Malta’s perspective. Payback from Henley’s perspective.
Something else occurred to me. In the first version of the scheme, applicants were not obliged to buy or rent any property, so why did Henley and Partners open a real estate agency in May? As if we don’t have enough agencies.
It’s as if they already knew there was going to be a first version, to be replaced by a second one after the government made a show of “listening”.
Remember this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indecent_Proposal
What Muscat has done is nothing short of prostituting Malta, selling it for easy money, with no strings attached.
Very well put.
Did you see this?

The gall of the man to refer to international law and treaties. I wonder what Maltese law firm/lawyer is advising Henleys?
‘It was illegal of the PN to declare it would withdraw passports…’
Guess who proposed that bit where third parties who discuss the scheme could face prosecution.
This managing partner hasn’t understood the extent of the hornet’s nest that is Malta.
So, when does Henley and Partners open its interior design branch and personal shopper agency?
At this point even LIDL is under threat from entry into the market by Henley & Something.
Mass deprivation of citizenships is not legal , but mass issuing of citizenships of convenience is legal as long as you roll out your cash with no questions asked about their provenance.
“A recent survey shows that the vast majority of the population opposes the sale of citizenship in principle, and rejects this scheme in particular, detached as it is from any residence or other requirements that would establish ties with the passport-granting country and society.”

At least in academic circles it seems that Joseph’s lies are seen for what they are, and discussions are understandably as level-headed as they should be.
Not in MALTESE academic circles though.
Thanks for the qualifier, Baxxter. I was wondering.

“The government said the opposition was giving notice that if it was returned to government, it would violate human rights without even granting fair hearing, the government said in reaction to the judicial protest filed in the morning by the PN parliamentary group.”
And there lies the most compelling argument against the sale of passports I’ve seen so far. Is the government trying to say that when you purchase a passport, you are also purchasing human rights?
Mr Kalin’s arrogance confirms what we have felt in our gut for sometime now, namely that Henley and Everything, in 2012, bought the Labour Party, went on to win the Maltese 2013 election and acquired the effective control of our country.
Muscat is a pawn in the modern colonisation of Malta by a multi-national corporation, one that excels in making secret deals behind the backs of ordinary people in third-world or developing countries, and which has now scored a world first with an EU member state.
Let them to it, the more they speak the clearer it becomes.
That this was a long time coming can be traced back to Labour’s maneouvering when the permanent residency scheme was being opposed by developers.
Rumour inside Mile End was that it would be scrapped and something radical introduced and voila’, every penthouse on the island would have Scandinavian vixens round the pool.
That was ca. four years ago. The morons thought Muscat wouldn’t have engineered it to have them ejected from the circuit.
Muscat doesn’t engineer things. He’s engineered into thinking he’s in charge.
Muscat is the prisoner of Henley and Something. Perhaps he is that “something”
The idiot just spelt it out himself, ‘citizenship is granted’.
And since when does a private company determine what constitutes a country’s internal affairs?
‘No legal basis, politically it’s a different matter’. Which is why the EU parliament just voted unanimously to introduce legislation and scrap the scheme.
Clutching at straws are we?
Didn’t the young lady say, on Xarabank, that all Henley do is execute as told?
Joseph Muscat is not their prisoner; he is their deliverer and partner.
If Henley and Partners intend to partake in discussion, perhaps they better consent to their contract being published.
It is, after all, one signed with an executive member of the house of representatives of this republic.
I think that Henley & Something are taking part in the discussion as the new owners of the Malta Labour Party. You see, they are in citizenship, residence, tax, insurance, property, legal, stockbroking and now even a political party.
Sweet.
Vote Joseph, get Henley & Partners.
Henley and Partners really are the pits.
I couldn’t imagine the CEO of another private company in Malta pitting government against Opposition for private gain.
Frankly, Henley and Partners are answerable to their shareholders and as such are only interested in maximizing their own profits.
Their remit is riddled with conflict of interest.
Well, I wouldn’t go around messing with a country’s Opposition taking to judicial protests if my shareholders’ interests were at heart.
If they think they’re going to turn any future liability from their clients onto the Opposition they’re mistaken.
The point the Opposition is making is that what they’re trying to sell isn’t their remit, the product, as it is, carries national copyright.
Unless we want to talk privatising citizenship with its various perks and options. Fancy that, buying rights which carry more equality than others.
Now that Henley and Partners have been elected de facto to cabinet, are they willing to spend the rest of their time dealing with the EU, US government and every other sceptical state on our behalf?
Sweet, we’ve outsourced our interior, foreign, EU affairs to this lot. Where is it one goes as citizen of this place to reaffirm their mandate with these individuals? Is it a ministry, secretariat or authority, what’s their budget, helpline?
They opened Pandora’s box with this one. Pity Franco Debono voted himself out of parliament, the endless rhetoric would have been, erm, without end.
For all his macho talk about not kowtowing to the foreigner, Joseph Muscat has gone down on all fours before the neo-colonialists Henley and Partners, who are disdainfully treating Malta as their new fiefdom all ripe for exploitation.
Joseph Muscat took the bait hook, line and sinker. To his eternal credit, Simon Busuttil was not taken in for a moment.
