Read all about the sort of talent (to quote the prime minister) that’s going to be buying Maltese passports: real European passports so that they can live in the real European Paris instead of the fake one in China.

[Daphne – Hello, David. That’s a VISA (not the card). Australia is not selling citizenship. You still have to jump through countless hoops to become a citizen.]
So do I understand you correctly that since the Australian scheme is not about citizenship it is therefore a good scheme and you would not object to a similar scheme in Malta?
[Daphne – No, you do not understand me correctly. Distinguishing between a visa and citizenship does not imply a value judgement. It is simply a statement of fact. There is another point you seem unable to grasp: Australia can only grant visas to its own territory, but a Maltese visa is a Schengen-area visa.]
This is the caption line from the Australian Department of Immigration and Border PROTECTION (emphasis):

“Becoming a citizen represents a commitment to Australia and its people. It gives a sense of belonging because you can fully participate in all aspects of Australian life…”
Is there any resemblance to the Malta IIP scheme?
No wonder our prime minister, his missus and company feel so ‘at home’ with the Chinese.
Same way of thinking, don’t you think? Their idea of buying flashy brand names, expensive houses and the like, makes one become part of the high society.
The only thing they never learnt is, that no amount of money will ever buy class.
