WELL, HELLO SAILOR! More kinky Maltese villagers set their ‘motlink’ shots to public view on Facebook

Published: March 28, 2014 at 6:43pm

Fifty years ago they’d have been entertaining the troops, the smut beneath the surface of normal life, largely unseen unless you took a trip to the bars around Grand Harbour.

Now they’re entertaining the rest of us on Facebook, with albums of ‘motlink’ sessions, one freakier and kinkier than the other.

Has there been any sociological or anthropological research into sex and sexuality in Maltese villages and the harbour area? Isn’t this mix of kinkiness, boys got up as sailor-bait, girls got up as garish tarts, band clubs, Muzew, illiteracy, ignorance and political patronage really freaky and creepy?

Russell Crowe has shown the way. Let’s build an ark and flood the place.

  2. La Redoute says:

Just what do these people do all day? I mean, really do as in for a living or occupation? They can’t possibly be paid enough to survive on for this sort of thing.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

They have normal jobs. That’s the rub. Employers don’t seem to mind this sort of thing.

    • ciccio says:

“They can’t possibly be paid enough to survive on for this sort of thing.”

Paid for it? I suspect they PAY for it.

    • Grezz says:

I’m beginning to believe that the photographers sell the photos to fetishists’ sites online.

    • Vanessa says:

they work like everybody! they don’t have anything different from me to you! they’re human beings like us! if you “somewhat people” call yourselves normal! leave them be appreciate the talented models and the talented designer… both worked so hard for this!!!…. and all you people critisizing please take a look in the mirror! espacially YOU!! Daphne Caruana Galizia …. do you really call yourself a human being? you’re a MONSTER! and all you who are agreeing with what she’s saying God bless you haters cuz YOU made them more famous :)

      • Tabatha White says:

It looks like Mintoff’s heritage is creeping out of the woodworks.

        Malta’s susa out displaying its outer crust;
added to which, the moment it opens its mouth, the jewels of ignorance canon out.

The experiment in social exposure as failed as the gaudy aluminium phase.

        Completely insular.

Pandered to by the conmen amongst them.

        Exploited beyond repair.

        Minds ravaged first.

        Vanities come of age.

        Stupidity now ingrained.

10th league stuff: Breeding more of same.

Malta made up of societal rubbish-dump volcanos that spew idiocy.

Vice and grotesque championed: villains; cheats, liars, fetishists; the greedy, the stupid, irrational, conniving, inept, asinine, reckless, envious.

A sub-culture of its own grovelling undetermined volition.

A collective identity born of the lack of one.

Worshipping at the altars of Easy-Access and Illusion.

        A breathing, teaming, writhing underworld.

        Our modern Babel.

        The reign of cupidity.

“Has there been any sociological or anthropological research into sex and sexuality”

I have always wondered and have posted a similar question many a times: where are the island’s sociologists, philosophers, anthropologists, psychologists, and intellectuals?

Malta has branched out into a very weird and creepy (as you say) society. Unless this fact is squarely confronted, these traits will stick.

    • Fucking hilarious says:

You missed the “in Maltese villages and the harbour area?” part. Daphne seems to be deluded enough to think it’s restricted to those areas. Shows how much of a loner she is, poor sod.

[Daphne – ‘Maltese villages and the harbour area’ is code for a particular sets of cohorts, Fucking Hilarious. I come from the harbour area, and am I like that? No. But we are apparently not allowed to say ‘extreme working-class and underclass ignorance’ so we have to use code instead. In reality, this is actually what we are dealing with here: a working-class/underclass subculture that has now become, or is rapidly becoming, the dominant culture.]

    • Jozef says:

It’s political. Sexuality was historically of the left, until that became embroiled in gender politics.

Throw in a political party that repudiates its vocation and the mix becomes overtly eclectic. This one at least tries to balance with form.

  4. Tinnat says:

Are these meant to be sexy pics? They scream “perverts.”

    • Edward says:

One wonders how they made it in modelling to begin with.

Al these shirtless men and not an abdominal in sight. Some even have love handles and spare tires.

No, there is no modelling industry in Malta. Just perverts with cameras, and attention seeking celebrity wannabes with a day job.

If yes, then God help us, and those children.

    • ciccio says:

They seem to be the ones who need to be adopted.

I wouldnt do this kind of shoot cuz i dont have what it takes like you people judging. And another thing to d guy commenting that these are the people who want to raise children, just a reminder that you daughter/son could be one of them, also please note that the child they will eventually adopt would be the child that ‘sane’ & ‘normal’ people like you left lying on a convent doorstep for no reason. so plsss!!!

  12. This is porn with clothes on.

    • Viking says:

you know what I call porn? The fact that slutty mary was raped by her imaginary friend and the whole world believed it. that’s what I call porn or ‘miracle’. Leave these people alone as if they’re gonna affect your life, you stupid worshippers

      • La Redoute says:

Why do I get the impression that you were raised in an oppressively pseudo-religious environment?

  13. TinaB says:

This is so wrong! Sadly it has now become a major part of the Maltese culture.

We are glad that our 20 year old daughter was brought up in a normal country.

  18. Sargu_xih says:

    Ghala semmejt il-Muzew? Fiex dahal?

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Because il-Muzew is a parallel education system, and it would be wrong to dismiss it.

I condemn it wholeheartedly, not for what it does, but for what it fails to do.

It does not provide a critical and analytical framework for anything. It raises boys and girls to be good, teaching them moral values (I’m being generous here), but not intellectual or aesthetic values.

Bear in mind that MUSEUM is not just Sunday school. It’s every day of the working week. A school after school, as it were.

When the hamallagni and trashiness is systemic and self-replicating, it is the education structures that are to blame. Il-Muzew included.

      • Joe Fenech says:

Every day? That’s not only a total waste of precious time that could be used for rest, study, sport or the arts, but is totally sectarian and should not be allowed. Parents are mad to expose their children to the harmful crap spouted by a bunch of indoctrinated, uninteresting preachers.

Has Evarist Bartolo got anything to say about this?

      • Sargu_xih says:

        1) You don’t have the minimal idea what Museum is about…and you’re so far off that I won’t even begin to enlighten your misconceptions.

        2) Check out how much of the ‘hamallagni & trashiness’ are members of Museum, then, and only then we can talk.

        3) It is really unfair to blame Museum for the degradation of society.

The real problem is that museum and societies which impart good ethics and moral values are not popular anymore. Most parents nowadays (since we’re progressive) find time to take their children everywhere (football, piano, etc…) except these places.

‘A man reaps what he sows.’

  19. Sister Ray says:

This is pretentiousness at its worst. People try to put together something they think is absolutely brilliant and end up miles away from pulling it off. An embarrassing mess.

  20. lablaba says:

    Dawn ħmieġ mela sexy.

  21. Edward says:

I have over the past few years realised that one of the causes of the many problems we have in Malta is that people are not all that emancipated.

In fact, we have an extremely unhealthy attitude towards sex and sexuality. It’s always something dirty and unwanted. It is oppressive and detrimental to the mental well-being of the people.

That is why I believe when certain politicians go around acting like 13-year-olds who have just discovered hormones, a lot of people flock to them because they feel liberated by that sort of behaviour.

They find it enjoyable to be able to just let the floodgates open since they have been forced to keep it all in all their lives. People like it when they get to feel sexy. And why not? It is part of what makes being human enjoyable.

However, I think that in Malta we keep it all in for far too long, and that affects people’s general behaviour. It’s either that or along comes some desperate 40 or 50 something yea old man and behaves horribly and just makes the matter worse. It s a bit like how I feel when I watch gay pride parades. I feel so misrepresented. No one wants to see THAT!

The way some politicians flirt so openly in public with pictures on Facebook makes one think that the only way they can express themselves in a sexual way is by looking and behaving like them, and they look ridiculous, which just makes the normal people suppress themselves even more.

I don’t think that suppressing your sexuality is a good thing, and as far as I know it leads to even darker fantasies and generally disgusting practices.

We need a sexual revolution in Malta. Maybe then people can finally get it out of their system and start seeing the world for what it really is.

    • La Redoute says:

The sexual revolution we need here is for people to understand that they have not invented sex just because they have finally discovered sexual liberation for themselves.

  22. J. Aquilina says:

Well, all I can say is ‘Imsieken’. Allowing themselves to be exploited like that, parting with their money for … ahjar ma nghid xejn.

I wouldn’t mind paying money for a portrait which is worth framing or hanging up at home, but these are the kind of pictures you wouldn’t want anyone to see.

Do these people actually do something with these shoots after they’re taken?

Apart from perhaps giving their permission to have them published in trashy calendars and the like? The mind boggles.

  23. Peppa Pig says:

I don’t know whether I should laugh or cry at those pictures. They are so sad, tawdry and grotesque.

  24. toninu says:

now tell us that he s a maltese villager!

[Daphne – There is no comparison. It is tragic that you think they are equal, and that these things have to be explained.]

    • il-Ginger says:

I don’t know why you bother, Daphne. Plebs don’t get art, plain and simple. For them art is just ‘shock’, because they have no depth to them.

In this professional photo shoot of a real male model they don’t see the difference between the colour, the shapes, the patterns, the texture, the light and shadows, how they act together and whether they represent anything the photographer is trying to convey.

How the subject of the photo could be said not to be the model, but rather what is on the model. The odd shoes, the odd places he is holding his arms, the cleanliness of the background and that odd piece of pasta – there is so much going on. It’s one of those photos you can spend an hour on.

It is so interesting and absurd and yet at first glance for some reason, you think it’s normal.

All they see here is a ‘wiehed iswed’ on a stool wasting food like immigrants do and they think it’s no different to a couple of rent-boy-lookalikes dressed in some fancy shit standing together butt-to-butt breaking the ‘social boundaries’ of South Malta.

  25. Dave says:

If these were any camper they would qualify as a mobile home.

  26. Dez says:

Can’t stop laughing! These ‘motils’ are the epitome of self-ridicule.

  27. kev says:

Rockefeller’s dream. Feminised men, macho women… I could go on and on, but this being an ‘only in Malta’ feature I’d rather let you feast on your own short-sightedness.

I used to be ‘progressive’ and ‘liberal’ until some years ago. Eventually, I came to know there actually was an agenda behind the ‘liberal revolution’, and in time I also began to understand the real worth of traditional values and family. It takes a long time for a ‘progressive liberal’ to get there. And you can’t make the trip on staple mainstream feed alone.

    Xej sew.

  28. Jozef says:

I wouldn’t call it freaky, just extremely tense because the composer’s emphatic. Yes, the influence of sacred baroque art is there. Which is where the meaning becomes a conflict.

If that’s the intention, he managed.

So he seems to put in more effort, light, composition and geometry, which is fine, but when these are used to augment drama in Caravaggio’s manner things change.

I can see a deposition in picture 7, which may also be the lightest one he has. Even because that triangle isn’t visible. The last one could be a bas relief.

Understatement isn’t of this place, even if execution is painstaking, the tendency remains to overdo it. Pity. We really need to learn to risk our ideas, instead of covering them in bubble wrap. Ideas are plenty.

And if anyone says those men aren’t gay prototypes, I’m a telephone.

  29. Katrin says:

    They clearly have no self-respect.

How much do you want to bet that the next photos we will from this lot will be a bunch of faggots vomiting on each other?

  31. The Phoenix says:

My God, I don’t know, but I have never laughed so much in my life. Gaetano, or whatever the fuck you call yourself, thank you…..THANK YOU.

In my wildest LSD -induced hallucinations and dreams, I would never have imagined that these photos actually exist, or that there will be willing tossers who actually submit to this ‘modelink’.

And what’s with all the triangular backgrounds and faintly Masonic motifs all around?

Are they advertising a new Lodge perhaps, in what is presumably a dark alley in Hamrun?

I can only surmise that Gaetano is a Hamruniz with an odd penchant for daguerrotypes and androgenous metrosexuals.

  32. Galahad III says:

    Hi Daphne,

(Tongue firmly in cheek) may we please have some more sexy pics ?

But please leave out the ones with boys in them.

    Thanks.

    “I’m loving it.”

  33. Meself says:

If we ignore the fact that these shots are freaky as hell, the models (if you can call them that) and the photos are terribly executed and finished.

Malta has an issue paying for quality in the arts field which is why there is no professional standard.

But I did find the photos bloody hilarious, so thanks for making me smile.

  34. Peppa says:
