Lots of people are posting comments here asking whether Konrad Mizzi is now going to get two ministerial salaries.
OF COURSE NOT.
Konrad Mizzi is ONE minister and one minister gets one ministerial salary. ‘Minister’ refers to the person and not to his portfolio.
This mistake arises from the tedious tendency of our print and broadcast media to deploy a limited vocabulary and use words incorrectly, with those mistakes then being fed into the system.

No, wrong: it’s two PORTFOLIOS.
Konrad Mizzi is one minister with two portfolios, or strictly speaking, one portfolio with two sets of responsibilities in it.
His salary stays the same. Whether his wife’s will too, we shan’t know. Jo and Malta Enterprise are keeping the lid firmly shut on that.

Oh goody. Now Konrad Mizzi can prepare Mater Dei Hospital just in case something goes wrong at the power station.
He should start with the Accidents and Emergency. That LNG tanker in the middle of Marsaxlokk Bay is an accident waiting to happen.
And let us emphasise that they are two UNRELATED portfolios. Unless the relation is some selling off to a communist dictatorship.
Enemalta has effectively been sold off to the Chinese so it seems a similar roadmap is up for grabs in the health sector.

Let’s face it, Muscat treated them badly as he treated undeservedly his deputy leader, who he thought was a social embarrassment, only to then make him Speaker to keep him quiet. What a spiteful man we have as a Prime Minister.
I don’t believe that Konrad Mizzi will be handling health. It’s Dalli who is going to administer health. Konrad Mizzi is a pupazz in this whole scenerio. Time will tell us.

I think that the PM saw him fit for the health portfolio since with the energy sector people are not noticing that one third of Enemalta has been sold to Chinese and the new gas power station is going to belong to a private consortium including Azerbaijan.
So I think that in time we will have our PM boasting that the hospital is under control (of I don’t know who) with free medicine delivered to people’s door (bought from I don’t know, probably China) and people and opposition will be alienated discussing other less important issues.
This is a very dangerous government but not smart. We’ll wait and see.

To me it sounds like the health consultant will now become the energy consultant, by stealth.

To my knowledge, this appears to be a cover up for Dalli. Konrad Fenomenali Mizzi is to be seen as minister for health, when in reality it is Dalli.

In this age of utterly ridiculous words like ‘chairperson’,’chairwoman’,’spokesperson’ etc why not have a cabinet totally composed of women?
We could then coin a new word ‘Minestra’ which will very adequately and euphemistically describe his ‘Kabinett kawlata’.
He will furthermore be entitled to tell us ‘Min ihawwadha l-borma jkun jaf x’fiha’ as an alternative to his Mintoff’s ‘Mhux fl-interess tal-Poplu’.
That ties in with Labour’s view of feminism and women.

You are right in saying that Konrad ‘Fenomenali’ Mizzi shouldn’t get 2 salaries but these people are so money-grabbing that it wouldn’t surprise me that he will get 2 salaries. Think of Jo and his car.
Minister Ovaltine treats Enemalta workers in the same way he treated his wife.

I actually think that Konrad Fenomenali’s appointment makes good PR sense.
He’s got to prepare the hospital in case of a catastrophe caused by his stinking power plant – he wouldn’t want to have severely burnt people waiting in the corridor.
This government’s only plans for the energy sector were to sell of Enemalta to the Chinese and berth an LNG tanker in Marsaxlokk bay. Now that these are done with, our Jo got thinking, what will Konrad Fenomenali do all day? And he dumped the health ministry on him.

Put differently, am I right to say that the appointment of Konrad Mizzi to Health means that Konrad Mizzi is a John Dalli man?
Didn’t we all agree that John Dalli was the de facto Minister of Health over the past year? Based on that consensus, then can’t one interpret these last moves as a consequence of some request by Dalli to Jo to assign Konrad Mizzi to his portfolio?
Does this also imply that John Dalli was somehow the Minister of Energy as well, with Konrad Mizzi serving only as a grotesque mask facade?

But then we will have Ms Coleiro Preca taking care of their needs.
Will civil protection and the emergency department be trained for a national emergency linked with an LNG tanker? As I honestly cannot imagine the horrific scenes this would leave behind that would have to be dealt with.
He doesn’t really need two salaries: he got one for himself, and another one for his wife.
