The reason for Il-Guy’s being fired from the cabinet has emerged already
When Il-Guy was fired as Tourism Minister and removed completely from the cabinet of government, but given the massive consolation prize of the EU Commissioner nomination to keep him sweet and on side, people began asking why he was removed there and then, instead of when the Commission appointment goes through.
Tonio Borg stayed a minister right up until he was confirmed as Commissioner.
My response was that the reason for Karmenu Vella’s summary removal would become clear sooner or later. And it has been sooner.
The first clue was that Edward Zammit Lewis, the prime minister’s best friend and co-conspirator in everything from the sale of citizenship (Zammit Lewis was omnipresent on that one, even though he was not the minister responsible) to the gas power station deal (Zammit Lewis is in a very close friendship with one of the shareholders) was installed in Il-Guy’s stead as tourism minister.
The antennae went up at once. Air Malta is in the tourism minister’s portfolio and not the transport minister’s. So it was bound to be something to do with that.
Now Tourism Minister Zammit Lewis has given an interview to The Malta Independent, much of which is taken up with how some tough decisions need to be taken about Air Malta.
You can see it coming already: another Enemalta, with Air China buying 30% and this ‘investment’ being hailed as the salvation of the national air carrier.
Purely as a side note, shouldn’t Zammit Lewis bother himself with a razor before he goes to work? That sort of look is for people half his age, who are not a cabinet minister.

That’s all we need, Chinese pilots.

Or Chinese astronauts.
I think he is suffering with the Richard M. Nixon beard problem.
He always has the five-o-clock shadow look no matter how close and freshly shaved he is.
I was going to write “Ed io pago!” but we are still in time I suppose.
If they want to privatise Air Malta they should make a public call for offers.
Can some journalist stick a microphone to Karmenu l-Guy and ask him point blank if he is in favour of the sale of Air Malta?
Was it in the electoral program which il-Guy together with the now Malta Freeport/shipyard Corporation Chairman copied/prepared a year ago?
I am worried.
He needs to spend some more time with Jo at the gym. Look at that double chin!
Spot on, though they may want to diversify and go with the Azeris on this one. No doubt a few passports will be thrown in to sweeten the deal.
So, Muscat is starting the privatisation of Air Malta after the PN brought it back on a sound commercial footing.
Let’s start a vox pop: “What would have happened if the PN even dreamt of privatising a de fact MLP kazin?”
[Daphne – Would you call sale to another state ‘privatisation’? I don’t. It’s the opposite of privatisation: nationalisation by another state. It was China that bought a chunk of Enemalta, and not ‘a Chinese company’.]
Well John Dalli like Tonio Borg resigned from his post after he was accepted as EU COMM
All this change of strategy and policy is bound to affect our tourism, and then………
This time round is not about China. Keep tabs on Air India.
So what would the Chinese be offering to the Maltese Air Malta employees? A job in China? Reduced wages if they stand their ground and remain working in Malta?
Malta Taghna ic-Cinizi lkoll
Somehow, I feel that Karmenu Vella just took one for the team – Labour needed a “news item”.
Come October, Labour will end up announcing someone else.
Miriam Dalli will take Joseph Cuschieri’s seat in the European Parliament, and her father-in-law Il-Guy will be on hand to babysit. He’s fit for little else.
Shiv Nair must be negotiating a deal even as we speak. And don’t even mention the words ‘Swiss bank account’.
Muscat climbed the leader of the MLP on Mintoff’s socialistic belief where everything should be owned and managed by the state.
Now that he is in power, he is selling off state-owned corporations to friends of the Labour Party.
His campaign was based on lies and falsehoods.
He betrays people and stabs them in the back, and removes them when it is convenient for HIM PERSONALLY to do so.

Gvern li jisma’ minn Daphne.
U Franco ghadu ma’ ffirmax…..
Important decision in Zammit Lewis terms means fire all Nationalists in key positions and replace them with Labour stooges. Have a look at how he ran remote gaming into the ground in just one year.
