Is Silvio Valletta, who is married to government PS Justyne Caruana, in the running? He’s going to have to fight off Neil Harrison, married to Labour Party campaign star Audrey Harrison.
Unbelievable…

I’d say it’s been nice, and you’ll be missed. But, well, you know. It hasn’t and you won’t.
The problem with this lot is, rather than this being a case of ‘good riddance’, you just worry about who on Earth will be his replacement,
Neil Harrison?
” Ahjar ix-xitan li taf minn wiehed li ma tafx”
One fat rat is as good as another, I guess.
The Police Commissioner has been a poor successor to John Rizzo. This latest engagement of retired officers proves my point.
It doesn’t, acually, because I don’t think you’re in a position to know whether or not they’ve been forced on him.
The Police Commissioner is probably not the one behind the decision. Hence his reasons for resigning.
[Daphne – No, nothing to do with principle, apparently, but the wife making scenes and all that palaver. These wives can get out of hand at times, especially when putting their foot down.]
Why would his wife object to his job?
What am I missing, Daphne?
[Daphne – Well, it’s no fun being a career widow.]
Everything that’s going on in the police force and the army is initiated by Manuel Mallia and bears his stamp. We shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that Mallia was working in Guido De Marco’s legal office when the latter was the Interior minister after 1987 and oversaw the dismantling of the corrupt Labour regime’s strong arm that the police force had become. Is Mallia trying to reverse all that and bring back the days when intimidation, unlawful arrest, police beatings and more were a daily reality? And might this be a step too far even for Peter Paul Zammit?
[Daphne – No, from what I can gather, his wife may have given him an ultimatum. Nothing to do with principles or anything like that, as his track record should tell you.]
I call these wives the “career widows” of which there are many around.
We will soon have the football widows running to the open arms of men who are not soccer crazy.
Did the police commissioner have any say in the court appeal against Cyrus Engerer?
How we must all long for the days when wives were happy in the kitchen and suckling their babies.
Now, as you say, we have wives giving their husbands ultimatums. Incredible.
Where will it all end.
Will we all end up being ruled by women and gays?
By the way, well done for this month’s Taste.
May be the new commissioner will be chosen from among the newly reinstated officers from the glorious years.
He has seen the darkness at the end of the tunnel he has been put in.
Sorry to piss on everyone’s prossset kummissarju ragel onest parade, but he really is resigning for family reasons, and we all know what those reasons are.
When Mintoff came to power there was a succession of police commissioners who retired after a short while.
The two who stayed on were John Cachia, who (in a different capacity) barged into parliament in full uniform to confront the Leader of the Opposition, and Lawrence Pullicino who finished in prison.
Compare this to the stability under a number of administrations in the hand of the Nationalist Party.
Gvern ta’ rizenji
Oh no. John Dalli’s ring will be twitching.
The police commisioner is going to be Chinese.
Or a washed up Robert Plant lookalike.
