And one of the crunchiest iced buns of them all…

Carmen Ciantar, then Carmen Pullicino Orlando, sitting behind Opposition leader Joseph Muscat at a Labour Party campaign event leading up to the general election last year.

Carmen Ciantar, who walked out on Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando after less than one year of marriage, has just been appointed Chief Executive Officer of ARMS Ltd, the utilities admin and billing company.

She had already been taken on at ARMS Ltd after the change of government, as chief operations officer, leaving her job in sales and marketing at Yellow Pages to take it.

You had to know something like this was in the offing when Ms Ciantar was paraded prominently in Labour’s EP election campaign during some discussion or other filmed under the tent.

This is a ‘hu go fik, Jeffrey’ move, sponsored by the prime minister. And isn’t this all so interesting? Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando is chairman and CEO of the Malta Council for Science and Technology. His current girlfriend Lara Boffa has been put on the payroll there as his personal assistant and ‘PR’, and has also been made a director of the board at Enemalta Corporation during this difficult period when serious decisions are being taken (and she’s so dull-witted, with none of the required experience).

His current wife, Carmen Ciantar, is a director of the board at Transport Malta and is now CEO of ARMS Ltd.

His former wife, Marlene Farrugia, is a Labour backbencher making very loud noises of disgust and disapproval.

You have to love life in a small island society.

“Don’t worry, Carmen, you can leave Jeffrey. We’ll look after you. After all, didn’t we sponsor Mrs Konrad Mizzi’s bolt to China?”

Some good news : Darren Degabiriele’s burns are 55% not 90%, so he has a very good chance to survive. Thank God.

For the first time ever, Antoine, you deserve a star for your comment.

But let me just point out that although the preceding swarm was smaller, its appetite was comparable and the rewards much higher.

Was there a public call for the CEO post, and please do not come back with the stupid argument that this is is a position of trust, because it is not.

It is a position of competence, then we can be satisfied if the CEO makes her CV public, since this is a public post.

    • Alf says:

I agree that Carmen Ciantar’s CV should be made public after all ARMS Limited is a public entity.

Labour people are used to asking for CVs and qualifications of individuals.

To be more accurate, it’s the Maltese who are the main sponsors, and not the Prime Minister.

  7. Joe Micallef says:

The decadence factor in this appointment is possibly the lesser of evils.

Take Konrad Mizzi – one year since he’s been in charge and three failed attempts to find a lasting CEO, he is immature and incompetent enough to still blame the previous administration for ARMS problems.

Add a couple of exponents to get a comparative picture of the complexities in the Health sector he is in charge of and start praying!

Imbagħad iċ-ċwieċ għax aktar minhekk ma tistax tgħidilhom jifirħu għax ħadu 2c roħs fil-petrol, xi ftit roħs fid-dawl u l-ilma, jekk hemm roħs għax jien qed niddubita kemm hemm roħs ta’ veru (skont il-kont tiegħi) bit-tabella li hemm biex tiċċekkja, skont din aħna suppost frankajna aktar milli fil-fatt iffrankajna.

U huma mhux talli għandhom dan ir-roħs ukoll imma qed jimpalaw il-belli liri jew aħjar ewro. Lanqas biss se jħossuhom. Le, għax jaħasra l-kapo qed iħoss il-polz tal-ħaddiema u jaf x’iridu. Iva… min iħaxxen il-but minn fuqhom. Ħa jgħaddu ftit ġranet oħra u ċwieċ li intom tirrealizzaw x’laqatkom imma mbagħad ikun tard wisq.

The level of dishonesty in awarding top posts exclusively to Labour Party favourites is a serious threat to those who truly merit the positions themselves, and to young people who are very promising citizens.

The creation of these jobs is melting our public coffers and using up money that is not meant to support financially the friends, cronies and favourites of the Labour Party.

  11. Calculator says:

Speaking of iced buns, I’ve just learned a bit of information regarding Mrs Konrad Mizzi.

A delegation of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce is currently in Malta, and met with Maltese stakeholders today.

Malta Enterprise was supposed to be present and give a presentation during the meeting, but cancelled at the last minute, apparently at the behest of its investment promotion envoy for Asia.

So much for promoting investment from and to Asia. It seems China is all they’re interested in, and Mrs Mizzi is not only untraceable, but when her work does show up, it is plain counter-productive.

    • H.P. Baxxter says:

Malta does not recognise Taiwan, so that would have created huge difficulties for the Maltese government. Especially given that The People’s Republic of China is paying for our budget.

      • Kevin says:

Any investment from Taiwan, and, there’s tons of investment dollar in need of a welcoming European economy, hinges on recognising the ROC on Taiwan.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

All EU states, and the United States too (of all nations) find themselves in the ridiculous position of doing business with Taiwan without official diplomatic recognition. That includes selling them sophisticated weapons systems.

It’s about time everyone acknowledged reality.

      • Calculator says:

Actually, the delegation admitted that recently there have been increasing avenues for travel and trade between Taiwan and China (though the ‘one China’ policy is obviously here to stay for now).

It just seems the Maltese government is being more Sino-nationalist than the Chinese themselves in this case.

    • Jozef says:

Let them to it. According to this government, Maltese entrepreneurs will have no business in Asia either.

Not if China won’t allow it. Who needs her contact details?

  12. Spiru says:

By the way! What happened of the ‘trab iswed” that Mugliett, Franco Debono and and Labour used to about?

I wouldn’t be surprised that they state that there is no more ‘trab iswed” because of fabbrika tal-cancer has been shut down.
