It was Dalli himself who put all the focus on the Eur60 million bribe, to ‘prove’ that he wasn’t a party to it

But with or without the bribe, he would have had to go anyway. You will have noticed that no bribe attempt or bribe money was mentioned yesterday in the Court of Justice in Luxembourg, by anybody.

The real issue was Dalli’s close alliance with a ‘bar owner’ who ‘brokered his meetings’ – which Dalli himself confirmed to Barroso, and that is what shocked Barroso and made him decide that Dalli’s position was untenable.

Dalli just didn’t get it and still doesn’t get it today because in Malta it would be considered normal for a cabinet minister to have his meetings brokered by a driver, a henchman or some lowlife scum, and to be seen hanging around with somebody like that and travelling with him.

Ghax in Malta we are really democratic eh – a cabinet minister can have a kiosk-owner as a close friend and travel with him all the time and have him as a social/business fixer. What, you mean a cabinet minister can’t do business? U ejja as if.

The picture shown here is a clip from this morning’s article in Times of Malta’s print edition – a report on yesterday’s proceedings.

How did Dalli know about that luscious 60 million euros?

I’ll bet he tosses and turns all night in bed fretting on what could have been.

He almost had it in the bag, 60 million big ones.

Some years ago, I met Silvio Zammit and talked casually with him about some personal situation which I had at the time. He told me: listen if you would need to talk to John Dalli, he is at my place (Peppi’s) every morning, when he is not in Brussels. Sometimes, even coming from Brussels, he comes straight here. You can come whenever you like to talk to him. Years later, I hear of this case involving John Dalli and Silvio Zammit, holding meetings at Peppi’s Kiosk!

I never went there. I never sought any intervention from any politician to sort things out in my life, apart from the fact that such an offer was so incorrect.
