    • Peter Bloom says:

I am still trying to figure out how — whether physically or legally or otherwise — one can “evict” a house, rather than “vacate” it.

  1. bob-a-job says:

And what did the PN do about it since 1987? Zilch.

Before the people start voting for righteousness we are always going to be lumbered with Parties that are pressured or that seek self gratification first and foremost.

I expect Simon to be the leader who will make that step in quality and renounce once and for all those who have entered politics for their personal ambitions, their search for power or financial gain.

I’d hate to be voting for the lesser evil once again.

    • White coat says:

It’s private property. It was the owners that needed to go to court and not the government of that day.

      • bob-a-job says:

The government of the day is there to enact laws to protect the public so please no excuses.

We all know nothing was done about it like nothing was seriously done about the compensation for ex-National Bank of Malta shareholders.

Stop finding excuses for the failed PN government.

The 18,000 who shifted loyalty aren’t all a bunch opportunists.

    • Francis Said says:

There are many cases in Court that are ongoing. Unfortunately our legal system is what it is.

      • bob-a-job says:

A government is there to improve the legal system.

There was ample time for the PN to do so.

Like I said I’d hate to be voting for the lesser evil once again.

  2. Antoine Vella says:

Labour is no better than the Armier squatters. In fact it’s worse because they have not only stolen the land but even the building on it. And they have stolen from a private family.

One just has to go through the comments below the article to understand the sense of entitlement these people have.

One of them thinks Labour cannot be evicted ‘ghax jispiccaw barra t-triq caq pumm.’

And Labour insists they don’t have to.

‘…In a reaction, the Labour Party said it was using the Qormi property in terms of a rent agreement regulated by the law…’

Pro business meta jridu, basta jkissru lil haddiehor. Prosit Partit Laburista, ibqghu sejrin hekk.

Issa tara Musumeci jqalleb fit-Treccani biex jesponi u jabbraccja l-argument, kif ghamel bil-kazin tas-Siggiewi.

    • hmm says:

If it was expropriated by the government it has to be for public purposes. The Labour Party club isn’t a public purpose.

      • bob-a-job says:

Up until 1987 houses were frequently requisitioned by the MLP government to be handed over to their supporters to be used as their domicile.

        So much for public purpose.

  4. pablo says:

The PL reaction is so unwittingly revealing. Only a corrupt and thieving organization has the ability to justify the fact that these owners that have been robbed by the PL for years on end; and are now also fair game for public insult. No shame no decency.

  5. observer says:

The most infamous episode I can remember was the one where the owners of a particular building had protested in the Courts against a similar expropriation.

The Courts, presided by the late Mr Justice Fortunato Mizzi, declared that ‘expropriation for public purposes’ was sanctioned by law – and added that expropriating a private dwelling and allotting it for use as a political party club was definitely an ‘expropriation for public purposes’.

I do not remember either the exact date (sometime in the mid-70’s) or the locality – but the cheek of that judgement still resounds in my mind, and, presumably, that of the expropriated owners.

That was ‘justice’ for the ordinary citizen between 1971 and 1987.

  6. Nutter says:

How does one evict a house?

  7. Madoff says:

One of Labour’s first daylight robbery was the National Bank of Malta.

  8. Bumblebee says:

    Burgling and bungling……..
