Mark Montebello’s explanation: fascinating

Because Mark Montebello has disputed The Sunday Times report in which he is said to have acted as go-between for the offer of a bribe to the priest’s accuser, to drop her case against him, Times of Malta has decided to publish in full the transcript of his telephone conversation with the journalist who rang him.
Montebello’s explanation is so garbled that it’s obvious he was taken by surprise here and is trying to find an acceptable explanation for an embarrassing situation.
The whole thing doesn’t look good at all.

There is only one reply to all the above mess, the words of the good Lord Himself.
Matthew 5:37
All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
Mela ħa jkun id-diskors tagħkom, ‘Iva, iva’, ‘Le, le’; kull ma hu iżjed minn hekk ikun ġej mill-Ħażin.
Although the conversation in the transcript is quite confused, it does appear that Montebello was not the go-between. Specifically, he spoke of the couple who called the victim about the silence bribe.
The couple were the go-between there, and the offer was already made to and rejected by the victim before the conversation between Montebello and Bonnici Cachia.
Does Saviour Balzan disapprove of this report too? It concerns Mark Montebello’s “private” life.
There are many points raised or referred to by Rev Montebello that deserve attention by all of us.
To start with, his re-interpretation of the intermediacy attributed to him by himself and then retracted by himself is very sad…it reflects the reverend’s attempt to conceal sensitive data regarding the attempted bribe of an alleged vulnerable woman.
This reverend seems to be going through a change of direction: instead of ‘Mid-dlam ghad-dawl’ he’s moving towards a diametrically opposite direction: “Mid-dawl ghad-dlam…ghad-dlam cappa.’ Along the last few decades, this reverend roundabout has shown excessive keenness to promote his socialist rooted beliefs and doctrines, but we didn’t get a lot of authentic gospel teachings from him that left an impact on society, given the charisma of his order.
Last but definitely not least, he didn’t want to comment about the state of being of the Dominican Order. I firmly belief there is ample material to produce a bestseller.
Lies remain lies even when someone seeks to coat them with sugary utterances to misguide one’s listeners and readers.
Much ado about nothing? Definitely not, dear Reverend.

It is clear from this transcript that Fr Montebello has nothing to do with the matter and that Mr Xuereb is performing his journalistic work.
I do not see nothing fascinating to be honest but a simple attempt to implicate other people who would make the case even more news worthy.

“The whole thing doesn’t look good at all.”
If this is not an understatement, what is ?
Mark Montebello has a lot of explaining to do to dispel the whiff of corruption, gobetween or no gobetween.
Explanation: noun: a statement or account that makes something clear.
Somehow it feels as if we need an antonym for the word explanation but I cannot quite find the one which fits the context. Perhaps trying to give everyone the runaround will suffice for now.
Why is Edgar Bonnici Cachia helping the victim, and in what capacity? He is neither a lawyer nor a social worker.
I wonder how Fr. Mark Montebello came into the story. Are Fr. Fenech and Fr. Montebello friends and trying to help each other?
This story is becoming more entangled. It is up to the courts to solve the problem.
Finally some hood work from The Times
Is-sinjuri Malta huma galantomi. Jew kien is-Sinjur himself?
You know what, this Mark Montebello is such a twat that the silencing part of the deal was irrelevant.
His mind would simply register “Ara miskina, kemm se tifrah b’ mitt elf ewro (or whatever).” Heqq, that’s 172,000 weeks of 58 cents pay rise, or some 200 Hamilton cruises on the MSC Fantasia.
The plot thickens, according to The Malta Independent:

Mark Montebello does not deserve to speak in the name of Christ and this by his own admission.
Isthi jekk taf kif, Sur Montebello!
Fr Montebello’s story does not make sense.
He better come clean and fess up the real truth.

If my memory serves me right, he was dispatched to Mexico a little while ago after he tried to play down the seriousness of paedophilia in the church (I think it was on Realta on Smash TV).
This came hot on the heels of yet another of his publicity-seeking TV appearances, in which he ridiculed the way some priests wear small crucifixes on their lapels.
This time he has been caught seemingly with his pants down (per modo di dire) as an intermediary in attempted bribery in one of the most scandalous stories of recent years.
What on earth is he still doing, wearing the cassock that ill befits him?
Reads like a Vicky Pollard rant, only less coherent

Have a gut feeling could be his daughter (the one who is assisting the woman).
I think so too. A daughter or a relative.
The fact that he has turned down a financial offer makes me think that his interest is genuine.
Can it be that since he was accused of abuse himself and made to pay for it, he didn’t think it fair for a priest to get away with a similar crime?
Emotions are playing a part in this. It may be.
What a frigging liar! Hypocrite!
Isthi jekk taf kif!
Dil-basla bil-Malti saret u bil-Malti tiftiehem
Mela le, kif qed jghid Montebello, ma tefghax hu l-offerta, ghax hu, kemm intriga jitkixxef jekk dil-mara kienx darilha jew le.
Kemm iwassal ir-risposta li forsi taccetta l-offerta.

Criminal complaint filed against Fr Mark Montebello: accused of attempted bribery
I am not understanding much, but if Fr. Montebello knew about this bribe, why did he not go and report it to the police? If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

And there, lies the answer, with the one who happened to be on the other end of the line.
Thou shalt not bribe
Thou shalt not lie

THIS MAN IS AN UNMITIGATED ”QABAR IMBAJJAD ”
fr. Mark May be trying to get at Fr. fenech who, I believe, was provincial when Fr Mark was silenced. However, if this is the case, he is not doing a good job because he is landing himself in a pit. Re Bonnici Cachia, possibly he’s out to make a buck out of this vulnerable person. He has the track record for it.
Giordano Bruno of Malta.
