Muscat thinks China is fabulous. So what are these people protesting about?

Perhaps we could dispatch our foreign minister to Hong Kong so that he can say that he didn’t notice any protests while there, just as he did in Ukraine when the riots had started.

As an aside, it’s also rather telling that Konrad Mizzi would rather his children were raised in a Communist dictatorship than in a free democracy and European member state.

That’s how much he values democracy and individual autonomy.

They’re obviously being influenced by PN propaganda.

  2. Procedures says:

What’s the surprise here? All dictators (and dictators designate) have or had a country to which they will run to, in case of emergency!

We always seem to have the wrong kind of friends….when Labour is in power.

More excitement to follow, especially when they bring Dom’s begging bowl out again.

  4. Mila says:

China IS fabulous for the entitled, communist dictator living in luxury at the top of the pyramid.

  5. tinnat says:

They obviously don’t believe their Prime Minister was well-advised to base the budget the government’s “optimism and that of hardworking families.”

  6. Kevin says:

The Hong Kong Chinese have always been particularly sensitive to the benefits of self determination. Even during their time as a British dependent territory, the Chinese would take to the streets at the drop of a hat.

However flawed, the general principles of democracy do work. And yet the Maltese have this masochistic streak of voting in totalitarian governments. We don’t seem to appreciate the true meaning of self determination and independence. We are shallow enough to believe that a clause within our Constitution suffices.

The Americans may have their own flaws but their love of liberty and their fight for such democratic principles as separation of powers and freedom of the press is enviable.

It’s so fabulous that his top people appear to be turning Chinese. Check out rubber-face Mizzi’s facial expression here:

Daphne thinks the US is fabulous. So what are these people protesting about?

[Daphne – Where on earth did you get the idea that I think the US is fabulous? I think New York City is fabulous. Much of the rest is stuffed full of rednecks worse than you would find at a Hal Qormi banana festival.]

    • kev says:

Oh, I see. ‘Rednecks’ are the problem. Otherwise, Disneyland is fabulous and the federal police-state is God’s gift to the planet.

[Daphne – Do I come across to you as the sort of person who would be interested in Disneyland, Kevin? As for the police state, you and I both know that the situation in Malta is a great deal worse.]

      • kev says:

That is where you are very wrong, Daphne. But then, of course, the only US news you read is on the lines of the mainstream crap they dish out at the Malta Independerrr. Every day, police thugs acting like demi-gods kill or maim innocent people and all the TMI publishes are stories of psychopathic individuals, like ‘Mom cuts head off toddler…’

The US prison system – or should I say ‘industry’ – is enough to make you wonder what the hell is going on.

‘Disneyland’ was meant as a metaphor, by the way. But you’re so naïve you take everything ad litteram.

[Daphne – I find the subject completely uninteresting, Kevin. It brings to mind the days 30 years ago when I’d have to listen to a bunch of pseudo-lefties ranting and raving about the subject and related matter while I tried to sunbathe in peace. Then I’d move off with my towel to a spot where I didn’t have to listen to rabbiting about corporations and capitalists and that is how it’s been since.]

      • kev says:

There, your honesty is appreciated. ‘Uninteresting’ it may all be, true – until one gets to know the subject, of course, because then the realisation that the actual truth is paradigm shattering is in itself a huge motivation for those who seek the truth with passion.

Lefties don’t know f*ckall, by the way, and what you call ‘capitalism’ is in fact ‘corporatism’ Mussolini-style playing globalisation in a largely managed global market – nothing to do with free market economics at all.

      • Matthew S says:

In spite of its faults (and it has many), the United States is indeed a fabulous country.

It has the best universities in the world, it has the biggest and most innovative companies in the world, it has the most advanced army in the world, it has done more for space exploration than anywhere else in the world, it is fully democratic and it is a beacon of light in the world.

When people anywhere feel oppressed, it is the United States they turn to for help. Even the United Nations headquarters are situated there.

Many citizens from all over the world would still happily cut off their left arm just to get the opportunity to live there.

The protests you link to are not protests for the basic right to vote like those in Hong Kong. Unlike in China, people are allowed to protest peacefully in the United States.

You’re completely mixing apples and oranges.

The current world order and all that is considered normal in the 21st century like democracy and the free market (even dictatorships try to put on a veneer of these things) come from the United States and the European Union.

Now please go away kev and take your wife with you. You can emigrate to your beloved Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba or Venezuela.

Don’t forget to say goodbye before you go. Large chunks of the internet are blocked there.

China is the most contradictory country in the world. It is a Communist country, where everyone should be equal, and yet there are comrades who can afford to buy a foreign passport while others are reduced to a state of slavery and made to work for companies like Leisure Clothing and the like.

Remember, Con-rat was speaking during his visit to the Playmobil factory. One can call it ‘toying with words’ or simply ‘child’s play’.

  12. J. Agius says:

Basically the Labour Party in Malta is not a Labour Party at all but essentially a communist party which is why they always get in bed with countries such as China, Azerbajian, Libya etc.

They feel more comfortable with these nations because they have the same horrible mindset.
