This is Arthur Azzopardi of Emanuel Mallia & Associates, defence counsel to Emanuel Mallia’s driver
This photograph was taken in March 2012 outside the court of justice. Arthur Azzopardi of Emanuel Mallia & Associates is on the left. We all know by now who is on the right. They were joint defence counsel to the man in the middle, an unlicensed bouncer called Duncan Deguara, who was found not guilty of killing a black immigrant patron at his boss’s bar in Paceville. The star witness for the accused was the killer and Paceville boss Frankie Grima. The dead man was “so violent”, he said, that he “even twisted the handcuffs”. Well, what can I say, Frankie? At least he didn’t bring out an Uzi and release its contents into your back, leaving you dead on the ground outside Bamboo Bar.
Meanwhile, the rest of you have the link to a newspaper report from March 2012 below. Please read it, wash your hands afterwards, and remember that this man was – exactly a year later – made cabinet minister in charge of the police and the army. All this happening now was inevitable.

Frankie Grima isn’t violent like the man not killed by an unlicensed bouncer:

Grima killed a man outside his Bamboo Bar in Paceville some years ago, by shooting him in cold blood then claiming self-defence. Those were the days when juries were not especially sophisticated and he got off. He killed him with a machine-gun which he kept behind the bar.
These are the sorts of people in the Police Minister’s circle of friends and contacts.
So he’s making money off this whole scandal, too?
The Uzi used in the Paceville murder was stolen from the law courts.
Now now, the man Frankie grima killed had it coming , he was part of a gang that would go to bamboo and destroy it unless they drank for free, threatened Frankie grima and other memebers of staff and he wasn’t shot in cold blood but got hit by a richochet from a warning shot , get your facts straight or you might start getting accused of poor and biased journalism
[Daphne – Right, so the next time I’m harassed by a bunch of Laburisti as happened to me in the street at Rabat last year, I should take the law into my own hands, bring out an Uzi and gun down Natius Farrugia and Maria Vassallo, because they had it coming to them, instead of going to the police station and filing a report. I don’t know what world you people inhabit, but it’s alien to the rest of us. Total sleaze. ‘He was killed by a ricocheting bullet from an Uzi stolen from the law courts that Frankie Grima just so happened to keep under his bar counter. He didn’t mean to kill him; the bullet did it.’ I don’t suppose you see the legal and moral lacunae in your argument, so I won’t bother. You people disgust me.]
With their impeccable aim, these guys should participate in the Olympics.
One fires a warning shot in the air and hits a moving car three times and the other fires a warning shot and the ricocheting bullet nails his victim.
Not bad. Two gold medals.
Amazing how some people don’t realise they simply are not credible.
It wasn’t the first time these thugs threatend Frankie grimas life ,
He also went to the police station on numerous occasions to report these but found the police to be rather unsupportive, if i was put in that situation I would get myself a weapon to defend myself, and if push comes to shove I’d would rather the perpetrator meets his creator than myself, on a side note , I think it’s disgusting that people think it’s ok to harass you and your family , and I would be very much on team daphne on most things, but to paint Frankie grima into this grotesque man shows that you dont know much of the back story
[Daphne – You know, Kris, most of us live our lives without getting involved with the sort of people who blow us up, or who we have to blow up because the police won’t do anything. Frankie Grima is not a journalist being targeted by people who want to silence him. He is one of them. And that’s exactly why he has those problems. Plenty of people own bars without ending up on trial for murder after killing somebody with a stolen Uzi.]
I have to disagree there , I think Frankie grima was the owner of a very popular establishment that Unfortunatley brought him in contact with a certain clientele . He perhaps wasn’t of their ilk and they thought they could bully him, which they did for a good while until the fatefull day, I think Frankie grima was , not unlike you. The victim of his own success , which a certain section of the Maltese public think it’s fair game to harass and bully .
[Daphne – You have got to be joking. I am not under threat because I am the victim of my own success. I am under threat because many people would rather I didn’t write the things they would prefer not to be said. Frankie Grima is under threat because he mixes with criminals and operates in an environment riddled with criminality. That’s probably also the reason his mate Manuel Mallia thinks he needs to be escorted at all times by a thug carrying a pistol. A proper comparison would be to a police officer who is under threat by those criminals because he is investigating what they do. Frankie Grima is not fighting or exposing anything. The man is bad news. Still dealing in Argentine beef, is he? Don’t stick up for him, because it isn’t worth it. Leave that to Manuel Mallia’s ex girlfriend. At least she gets paid for it. You don’t.]
Funny, Kris, that in over 70 years I never needed the services of police for protection. It was not just a coincidence but the simple fact that I avoided places where ‘accidents’ are prone to happen.
