UPDATED: the Police & Army Minister at 2013 boxing match with his driver Paul Sheehan. And is that Stephen Smith?

Published: December 14, 2014 at 12:49pm

In this video captured by a smartphone at a boxing match featuring Billy the Hitman (Corito) in July 2013, the Police & Army Minister – as he was then – is clearly seen in the front row with Codruta Cristian.

PC 533 Paul Sheehan buzzes in and out of shot in a grey striped top as somebody who’s working for the fight, rather than part of the audience. At a couple of points he is seen going up to Manuel Mallia to say something. At the end Mallia is helped into the ring to embrace Billy Corito.

The man who helps him into the ring – and who is wearing the black T-shirt and black trousers of Billy the Hitman’s crew – bears a remarkable resemblance to Stephen Smith, right down to his posture. For a few seconds before that, he is walking around the ring and lifts up a little girl. The resemblance is so remarkable that I had to watch the video again and again.

—————–

Isn’t this just like something out of a 1930s New York mobster film, with the corrupt politician, the gangsters and assorted criminals and toughs with the occasional random child at a boxing match. The context is just so wrong for a cabinet minister in the 21st century, but so right for somebody as sleazy as Mallia.

He should never have been given that job. He should never even have been allowed to stand for election because you never know what the electorate are willing to foist on themselves and because they take everything on trust that is presented to them by the parties. But of course we would; we should be able to assume there is a sifting system and quality control.

They were lucky he didn’t jump on the ring. This would have happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U-g-bVebQc

What is just a coincidence? When Mallia manages (finally) to climb up the ring, and is about to embrace the winner, somebody starts playing “I’ve got the power” …

There is also a guy who bears a striking resemblance to Stephen Smith. He appears at the end, wearing a black T-shirt and trousers, he lifts a girl up at one point, walks from one side of the ring to the other and then slaps a five to Billy and hugs him passionately.

    Carissimo Albano,

He’s got the same facial characteristics and build as Stephen Smith.

This is very easy to check since this man has his arms full of tattoos. Just try to find out whether Smith also has tattooed arms.

Oh yes, I bet they never knew each other, these three.

Is it some illegal gambling settlement on the side maybe?

Come on it’s Malta, a minuscule island where if you are from a certain background you tend to know all the players very well.

And our ex minister is not bothered about being seen at such events.

What a role model Mallia has been. Does he fix fights too? I’m sure when the right moment comes along, more bad things will come out.

The complete Mallia offspring are seen on the ring in the end. For Manuel and Codruta it’s clearly a family event. And Corduta keeps swaying and rolling up her sleeves as if she were about to prepare for some boksink herself… into the inflated punchbag sitting beside her.

  16. Don Camillo says:

At minute 3 of the video I see the girl being hugged in the ring. But excuse me, what is a girl of that age doing in a violent atmosphere like that?

Who are the parents? Shouldn’t they be criminally charged with exposing a minor to violence?

This is outrageous, immoral and outright distasteful. Where are the competent authorities in all this?

The kids get to learn all about illegal betting and boxers who are paid to lose a match or “take a fall” as they say in the trade.

As much as I agree with your argument, Boxing is an Olympic sport and nowhere in the world are children banned from this sport. There is no law that regulates age in a boxing match. So do not invent things.

      • H.P. Baxxter says:

True. And these hamalli have turned the noblest of sports into the pastime of chavs. It’s disgusting. The Japanese never hamallified their martial arts like we did, and everyone’s in awe of them.

Give us back our noble science.

  18. Xjim Purtani says:

But face it, this Corito is good and if he continues like this, he will make a name for us. He seems hast at hand, though probably must improve somewhat his technique.

There should be nothing wrong with this. Boxing is where sports meets arts, antagonism meets culture.
