Three million copies of the new Charlie Hebdo to be distributed internationally

The thing is, what’s going to happen now is that millions of people who never read the magazine or saw its cartoons will wonder what the fuss was all about.

Mass murder has raised people’s expectations for something really extreme or exceptionally good, that it would bother terrorists to that extent. The reality is that the humour is very basic and it doesn’t really translate culturally.

Many of the cartoons produced in response to the mass murder are a lot sharper, better and wittier than those typically found in Charlie Hebdo. But that’s hardly the point anyway.

The magazine is now a symbol in and of itself. The quality of its content is irrelevant at this stage.

its a bit like you (the unmentionable one) – the more they don’t mention you the more popular you and your blog become.

“The 44-year-old Charlie Hebdo newspaper had been sliding towards bankruptcy before the attack against it. It used to typically sell only half of the 60,000 copies it printed weekly.”

The irony. The shortsightedness of the fundamentalists.

  3. Rorschach says:

And to see the not-so-hidden message in the new cover, look at it upside down.

Thanks for the tip. It was clear from the moment I turned it.

      Tip for PC:
To quickly rotate the screen if you are not on a mobile device press Ctrl+Alt+ArrowDown

Then press Ctrl+Alt+ArrowUp to return to normal

    • The person in the picture need not be any particular individual, though it is a clear reference to a person who is a Moslem. The emphasis made by those who have an agenda (either way) that the person is that of the founder of Islam is typical of persons seeking trouble.

If your observation, a clever one, brings out the true message of the cartoon, I only ask, “Is this in line with the recommendation of the French Prime Minister that the response should be a responsible one?”

I have read reports that next edition of Charlie Hebdo will be distributed internationally.

Have tried calling Miller to see if they will be distributing it but got no reply.

Would love to get a copy.

Try subscribing directly? Things are being set up through the alliance of media actors helping Charlie Hebdo since directly after the murders.

I believe the first online priority was to accommodate donations, which were pouring in. This was set up by the weekend. By the Thursday morning 40,000€ had been received in small donations.

When I spot a link I’ll post it here.

        Great. Thanks.

Please do. I did not find anything yet.

So far it is difficult to order copies throughout France. There are waiting lists of over 85 people at small newspaper shops.

I have asked a friend to get me 3 copies the moment a kiosk opens at 8am in Paris (and am on other waiting lists) and he is not sure that supply will be sufficient even at that point.

However, what I did hear too, is that there are going to be further runs throughout the week to keep up with demand.

      • Eye on Malta says:

ie. I think they’ve been busy with production, getting through this immense ordeal etc.

I imagine it will be sorted by Thursday once tomorrow’s issue is 100% ready.

        I’ll keep looking.

      • Eye on Malta says:

Just an update: my friend was waiting at the kiosk at 7.30am today but all the stock of Charlie Hebdo delivered were gone in max 5 to 10 minutes.

        Delivery guaranteed for tomorrow.

I received several requests to obtain copies.

The link above permits various options for purchase of the issue currently out on a one time basis, to addresses outside of France and other usual subscription offers.

      • Eye on Malta says:

And finally, on this subject: one of the waiting lists came through and a copy has been obtained.

      • Eye on Malta says:

Not so final: 5 million copies will be printed to cope with demand.

Stephen Fry was, as usual, completely on point: http://www.stephenfry.com/2015/01/10/you-must-mock/

The most spectacular example yet of the Streisand Effect.

  7. H.P. Baxxter says:

The fad will die down. It might push sales up in France but I can’t see Charle Hebdo going global. It’s like trying to export Private Eye or Eulenspiegel.

    • Eye on Malta says:

I think its value will remain and act as a symbol for the fourth estate.

Rather than die down, there will be regional adaptations, but still upheld as a symbol, unless diluted by investment or shareholding seeking to wield influence.

Just goes to show how proud we should all be that we have that cultured and avante-garde dude at Malta Today. He makes it a point to buy a copy of Charlie every time he visits France.

This is better than Charlie Hebdo cartoons, ridicule the terrorists.

Whatever one thinks, and for who clearly understand the Muslim’s mindset, even with the large majority of silent resented moderates, this persistence will further damage the ‘integration’ cause much more than one million ‘Muslims out’ far rightist cries.

For while they understand the latter as sort of legitimate demographic self defense and they move along (as would be their reaction to a million Christians in Jeddah), they will surely consider the former and any Religious offences endorsement as much more of a ‘hate speech’.

This is the truth. And this is why many journals and newspapers even while in solidarity mode were reluctant to publish the cartoons of Hebdo, and published alternative ones instead.

People of every creed hold sacrosanct what is written in sacred text. If for muslims, depicting the prophet is a major offence amounting to blasphemy, putting it in their face amounts to ‘hating them’.

There is no escaping this fact. For offending and hating, in many cases, goes hand in hand, and the former is in most cases a natural reaction to the latter. As long as you are not insane, you will never offend anyone who you like.

You can still remain a friend with a Muslim even while telling him in face that you consider his individual and group presence as a threat. For sure you will not remain a friend if you offend or endorse offences to Islam.

The leftist liberal mindset of ‘I will fight anyone who want you out, but you have to allow me offend your creed’ will not work with Muslims, even if they pretend otherwise. So even if they do not know it or accept it, those who offend their creed or endorses it, are nonetheless guilty of hate speech as those who want them out. At least in Muslims’ eyes. Understand this fact, and you will be on.
