Tonight in parliament: a debate on the Shanghai deal when almost nobody in parliament knows the details
From Times of Malta’s real-time report: Dr Busuttil said in Parliament that it was shameful that this debate on Enemalta was being held in the dark, in that the government, despite promising transparency, had failed to publish the contracts it had signed and related documents on the Enemalta-Shanghai Electric deal.
The government had sold a third of Enemalta and a power station, but it only published a vague 15-page document which did not constitute the real agreement. What did the government have to hide?
From The Malta Independent’s real-time report: The government, (Busuttil) said, has repeatedly refused to expose all agreements signed. “Choosing not to publish all the relevant documents only goes to show that there is something to hide. This is hypocritical of the government,” Dr Busuttil said.
The Opposition, he said, is only participating in the debate to stress the lack of transparency of the government. “We will keep on insisting that all documents are made public,” Dr Busuttil said. “It is impossible that an agreement worth so much is only 15 pages long – the selective pages are the ones which have been tabled.” Busuttil said that the documents presented are superficial and not enough.

“While Leisure Clothing employees were paid €70 a month for six 14-hour days per week, managing director Han Bin received a performance bonus of €30,000 a year, a court heard this morning.”

Enemalta employees beware.
By any chance, did he deposit his €30K bonus in the company’s bank account together with those of the ordinary employees? That surely would be practising communism.
Regarding the price of petrol, the only thing they boast of is the stability in price over the past 2 years. Agreed, stability in the high price of petrol, including this period when the price has been stumbling for the past months.
‘I can assure you that prices will go down and savings will be transferred to consumers, not because of you, but because hedging would have expired,” Dr Mizzi told the Opposition during a debate in Parliament this evening.
The Minister should be asked to step down for this statement.
The Minister is admitting that prices cannot go down and savings passed to consumers now because of hedging agreements entered into under his responsibility.
The Minister’s argument is equivalent to “prices cannot go down and savings transferred to consumers because of the Minister’s political incompetence.”
The Minister must carry his political responsibility. The hedging agreements entered into form part of his political responsibility. Don’t think the electorate voted for hedging agreements.
Someone must compute and publish the total cost of this gross incompetence for consumers.
Shame on you, Ministru.

You can see the damage we suffered so far since the beginning of the year at the bottom of the page here

While wrapping up the debate Konrad Mizzi quoted selected parts of the agreement which he is keeping under wraps.
What kind of democracy is this?
We are not being treated respectfully by this government.
The useless Opposition has not even come up with the calculation of how many millions Enemalta is paying weekly due to the hedging agreement.
If it were Labour there would be a daily count – and computing how many new schools would have been built with the amount saved.
Useless leader, terrible PR, no strategy, viva l-kacca.
We really do need a new political party with balls.
It’s at the bottom of this page if you care to check:

Another interesting statistic would be to know how much of the €320 million which the Chinese “invested” in Enemalta has been lost on the wrong hedge.
In from one hand, out from the other.
Do we even know who the hedging agreements are with?
A Chinese bank owned by the Chinese government, maybe?
Rjc – clearly you don’t even know what I’m referring to.
The counter you refer to at the bottom of the page is only the fuel being over paid by motorists for their cars. It’s even called dieselupetrol.com
What about the heavy fuel oil which EneMalta procures for power generation?
THAT is the BIG scandal and which accounts for millions of euros weekly. Yes, I’m screaming to wake up the opposition from their coma.
Rjc, you are as incompetent as Dr Busuttil.
