What a bunch of crooks: Labour government gives amnesty to massive-tax-evading PN ex-Minister

I am beginning to understand why some people don’t vote at all.

What is this country?

We have just heard that a man who was in the Nationalist cabinet of government for TWENTY YEARS, and who during some or all of that time (Ninu Zammit’s statement fudges it) concealed a considerable amount of money from the tax authorities, from his party leader, from his prime minister, from his cabinet colleagues and from the electorate, evading massive amounts of tax and by definition, cripplingly punitive penalties and additional tax (to say nothing of escaping public opprobrium and resignation because the discovery wasn’t made when he was a minister), who lied outrageously to parliament in his false declarations of assets, has just been given an amnesty by the LABOUR government and got away with all that.

And it’s all fine, apparently, because he has “regularised his position”.

That’s right, there’s nothing that can be done at law, but that doesn’t mean it is in any way fine.

It is anything but fine. It is DISGUSTING.

Even as Joseph Muscat has been issuing statement after statement these past couple of weeks, saying that his government is doing all it can to get hold of the Swiss Leaks information pertaining to Malta, and that it will deal with any wrong-doers without fear or favour, we now discover that all along he knew exactly who one of the big names (probably the biggest) with a hidden account at HSBC Geneva was – because his government gave him an amnesty.

Do you know how I feel right now?

I feel that if somebody were to line the lot of them up against a wall, I’d be happy to shoot them.

What crooks – betraying public trust, lying to their party, lying to their colleagues, lying to the electorate, conniving with each other to further each other’s interests, cheating, lying some more, lying to parliament, grabbing and snatching, and all the while pretending to stand on the moral high ground.

None of this has done any favours whatsoever to the political class. As of today, the Nationalist Party has ratcheted up a full three former long-serving cabinet ministers who have been exposed publicly as cheating crooks: Ninu Zammit, Michael Falzon and John Dalli. The Labour Party is practically collapsing under the weight of its shark enclosure.

Yuk, yuk and yuk again – torch the lot of them and let’s start afresh. If only that were possible.
