I have just received word that European Commission anti-fraud investigator Giovanni Kessler is not going to testify before the House Privileges Committee as expected this evening (the session was due to begin at 7pm) because European Commission permission has not been granted.

The House Privileges Committee hearing has nothing to do with the case against Silvio Zammit heard in court his morning, or with the ongoing OLAF investigation against John Dalli (not directly).

It is meeting to hear a breach of privilege complaint brought by the prime minister against the Opposition leader, who said in parliament that the prime minister had intervened to save Dalli from prosecution, by changing the police commissioner who planned to prosecute him for a police commissioner who was willing not to do so.
