The new medical school – where are they planning on getting the bodies?
I have received an email from another doctor, which I reproduce below.
I read with interest the note which the Malta Medical Students Association emailed to its members.
Pre clinical work, in my time (’64 and ’65), included dissection of cadavers which used to be preserved in appropriate fridges. I suppose it remains the same today.
Cadavers for dissection always used to be at a premium. I do not think the people from Queen’s (as it is actually referred to, like Bart’s instead of St Bartholomew’s) will be bringing their own supply of cadavers to Malta.
Teaching of pathology necessitates a huge amount of samples that cannot be easily reproduced, unless they are using photographs. The Malta Medical Students Association would do well to have a good think and prepare its members for hard competition from the start.
