Looks like Twanny il-Bronka is up to the same tricks
And it looks like the cunning prime minister failed to check on his own Gozo Minister’s works-for-votes record before making a fuss about Giovanna Debono.
Do you recall how, while Giovanna Debono was being put through the mill on this one, Twanny Il-Bronka – as the Gozo Minister, Anton Refalo, is known in Gozo – was taken ill with heart problems and admitted to hospital? It was reported in the news.
Hmmmm, I thought. That one is up to something and he’s worried they’re going to nab him too.
Now it’s been reported in the press that his people have been carrying out works for votes, too, and that he is under investigation by the police (he denies being investigated personally).
The Opposition, however, says that yes, he is under investigation and that the prime minister should sack him at once. Nine cases of works for votes have been uncovered so far, the Opposition said in a press conference today, and there might well be many more – but the problem is hat the minister is in charge of the evidence against him, and that’s highly problematic so he should go.
The Opposition pointed out that the government has not denied the news reports that Refalo’s Ministry is being investigated.
More pertinently still, the minister’s wife – who just like Giovanna Debono’s husband worked in the Gozo Ministry (in her case, the ‘customer care department’) has been summarily transferred to the Gozo General Hospital. She is a public servant.
