Gearing up to asset-strip the country: video with introductory voice-over by Malta’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium
The most interesting thing about this video, apart from Toni Abela behaving like a chimpanzee and the fact that the man doing the MC voiceover is now Malta’s ambassador to Belgium, is the fakeness of the couple at the centre of it.
They come onto the balcony as two separate people detached from each other. He is totally oblivious to her presence, so much so that she has to dodge his arms when he begins raising and lowering them. He almost brings down his arms into her face.
Then clearly the script says ‘reach out for your wife and put your arm around her shoulders’. They do this without looking at each other. She remains stiff as a ramrod with a rictus smile for the crowd and after a few seconds, she actually reaches up to throw his hand off her shoulder and fixes her jacket with a gesture of tense irritation, all the while maintaining the rictus grin.
Then he reaches over to Toni Abela and grabs his hand. They raise their arms right up in front of her face with the manners of pigs. She gets pushed behind, smiling, smiling all the while.
No wonder she’s determined to make the most of these five years. She’s paid a high price for them.
