Chris Fearne, the Health PS, and his boss Konrad Mizzi, the health minister, gave a press conference this morning on the subject of weak concrete at the state general hospital.

And Chris Fearne said how the Nationalists are to blame because all the weak concrete was laid in the first six months of 1996 when they were in government.

Well, Mr Fearne, unless you did it on purpose because you can’t stand John Dalli and want to undermine the prime minister, you certainly walked slap-bang into that one.

That’s why it pays to read this website on a daily basis, Mr Fearne, because if you had, you would have read the post a couple of days ago in which I quoted the report of an inquiry held by former Attorney-General Edgar Mizzi, at the request of Labour Prime Minister Alfred Sant, in which he found that Bastjan Dalli supplied ALL the concrete for the hospital construction during the first three and a half months of 1996, and that he carried on supplying it after that, but with others.

The fact remains that for the first 3.5 months of the six months in which Chris Fearne and Konrad Mizzi say the weak concrete was supplied, ALL that concrete was supplied by Mixer Ltd, the concrete batching company which Bastjan Dalli bought when his brother’s office was busy preparing the call for tenders for the hospital construction. For the remaining 2.5 months of that six-month period, Bastjan Dalli continued to supply concrete with others.
