Another Maltese mammone

After the man who beat up his wife because she wouldn’t take his mother to hospital (why didn’t he take her himself?), here’s the one about the man who has had a common-law ‘wife’ for 20 years with whom he has children, while still living with ‘his ailing mother’ to take care of her – instead of living with the mother of his children to help her take care of them. I can just imagine how the mother of his children felt about that.

The girl’s father took the witness stand in 2005 and told the court that he worked as a watchman, security officer and a construction worker. He had been with the girl’s mother for over 20 years but lived at home to take care of his ailing mother. He said that most of the injuries on his daughter occurred when he was at work and he always took her straightaway to hospital.

Jahasra, he’s not necessarily a mammone but conveniently claims to live with his mother. That way, the mother of the children can successfully claim she is the “head of household” and would then be eligible for social assistance. There are men who even rent a disused place just to have a separate address from their partner whom they live with, so that both can claim assistance.

(Daphne – You don’t get social assistance by claiming that the father of your children doesn’t live with you. You get it by claiming that the father is unknown.)
