The Italian press reports today that two Italian citizens on that country’s ‘wanted’ list have been arrested in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic (in the Caribbean; Haiti is the other half of the island).

They are Massimo Perazza and Andrea D’Aloja.

They have been sought by the Italian police since 14 December last, when six of their criminal associates were arrested in Italy in connection with fraud against the Italian navy when “diesel imported from Malta in Libyan ships” was never actually delivered to the naval base at Augusta, Sicily.

This illicit business involving diesel, Malta and Libya is another tangled web of criminality, and it’s entirely unsurprising that Darren Degabriele was blown up by a bomb that turned his moving car into a fireball a year ago. He was ostensibly a fisherman with EU funds for his fishing business but somehow entered the fuel trade – because you know how it is quite normal for fishermen who have fish restaurants to operate a sideline in fuel shipments.
