Best in Europe: mosquito pond in Gzira

A plot of land excavated in preparation for the building of a 12-storey building (before the permit was issued), between Triq ir-Rebha and Triq il-Gzira, in Gzira, contains filthy, dark, stagnant water in which mosquitos have proliferated in the heat.

People who live in the area are unable to leave their windows open without having insect-screens fitted.

The sporadic rainfall of the last few days, coupled with the damp heat, has made the problem worse.

This kind of filthy eyesore and health hazard is not what you expect of a member state of the European Union.
