UPDATED/Corrupt police inspector, currently on extended sick leave, discusses business deal with major construction company owner
Corrupt police inspector Roderick Zammit, who is currently on extended sick leave from the police force, was at lunch at a restaurant in Xlendi last weekend, where he was photographed. He is on the right of the picture.
His lunch companion is Michael Bugeja, owner of the Bilom Group, one of Malta’s largest construction companies and a developer of blocks of flats and other real-estate projects.
They were overheard talking about closing off a business deal before the tax authorities find out and become involved.
Zammit’s brother Daniel, also a corrupt police inspector, was ‘boarded out’ from the force at his own request last spring. Their corrupt father, former acting Police Commissioner Ray Zammit, was obliged to leave the force some weeks later. He was given a position with the government at the same salary and with the same chauffeur-driven car, but the government now says he will leave that position in a few months.
