UPDATED/Deo Scerri steps down from RSM
UPDATE AT 9AM: The word at the Bank of Valletta is that Scerri, who is already a director of the board (appointed by the incoming Labour government in 2013) will replace Charles Borg as CEO. Borg has been given notice of non-renewal of his contract. Either that, or he will replace John Cassar White as chairman.
Deo Scerri – long-time auditor of the Malta Labour Party/PL, this government’s appointee to the board of directors of the Bank of Valletta, and managing partner of the accountancy/consultancy firm RSM Malta – has sent out a round-robin email to inform colleagues and clients that he will be stepping down at the end of the year.
Scerri, through RSM, handles the Malta affairs of Hani Hasan Naji Al Salah, the Jordanian construction company owner who wants to build something here that our prime minister will insist on calling a university.
RSM has registered two companies in Malta in which this Jordanian man is the sole shareholder: Sadeen Education and, tellingly, Sadeen Health.
Scerri has also been photographed having coffee in Valletta and deep in conversation with Thaer Mukbal, Al Salah’s Palestinian-Canadian sidekick.
I really don’t think Deo Scerri is retiring at 60. I think he’s moving on to something else – either something for Hani Hasan Naji Al Salah or something for Joseph Muscat. But it’s probably both.
