I recently visited Dar Malta in Brussels, where Malta’s Ambassador to Belgium, Ray Azzopardi, and the deputy ambassador explained their work.

Azzopardi spent a good half-hour rattling on about how they deal with lost documents. I quote: “Jekk titlef l-ID card jew il- passaport, ghandna trid tigi, niehdu battikata, imma naqduk”.

One of the people in my group of visitors asked if that is actually all they do at the embassy. His flustered response was “Le… Jekk xi hadd Malti jiehu zball u jattakka xi ministru Belgjan, niddeffsu ahna fir-relations”.
