It’s a shame Joe Cassar wasn’t sentenced to jail for two years. Muscat wouldn’t have minded that.

The prime minister wouldn’t have minded that. Instead pretending to be aghast and demanding that the Opposition leader “does something”, he would have made Cassar his Sherpa in Brussels – a Sherpa without security clearance because of his criminal record – on a salary of almost 100,000 euros a year.

You know you’re living down the rabbit-hole and beyond the looking-glass when the man who makes Cyrus Engerer his Sherpa after the Appeals Court confirms his conviction and two-year prison sentence then expresses (pretend) shock-horror at the fact that an Opposition MP, when he was a cabinet minister, let a corrupt fixer who is currently in THIS government’s pocket pay a construction bill of 8,000 euros for him.

Of course that was wrong. But how much worse is it that the actual PRIME MINISTER sets a horrendous example to the nation by appointing as his personal Brussels Sherpa a man who has just had his two-year prison sentence confirmed by the Appeals Court?

And this when the Engerer’s crime was rooted in the very homophobia that the prime minister, under his liberal and progressive mantra, is supposed to be working to eradicate.
