It’s 2015, but they’re still thinking in terms of “foreigners” and “Maltese lace”

This is the two-day exhibition on at Parliament House for the duration of the migration summit.
Foreigners are coming, so we must show them some lace just as we did in the late 19th century, even though nobody makes it, buys it, uses it, wears it, or gives a damn about it anymore.
And we must, of course, give the exhibit that 1960s retro vintage church bazaar feel, with boxes covered in squashed roasting-foil and somebody’s dolls specially decapitated for the occasion. Oh, and I love the French.
