The Parma-based specialist stonemasons, Filiberti, facing bankruptcy because the Maltese government is holding back on paying the €3.4 million it still owes for their work on Parliament House.
Filiberti have resorted to appealing to the Italian prime minister, Matteo Renzi, to intercede with the Maltese government on their behalf.
They have already had to make 10 of their 38 employees redundant and the liquidity crisis has left them unable to take on new orders.
