The deputy leader of the Opposition, Beppe Fenech Adami, said on television last night that the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Keith Schembri, who is currently embroiled in the worst corruption scandal to hit Maltese politics since 1987, sends him “warning messages to keep my mouth shut” via third parties.

He did not go further. When asked by the show host, an extremely jittery Saviour Balzan, whether these warnings came in the form of text messages on his phone, Fenech Adami said: “No, they reach me via third parties.”
