More corruption: Brian Tonna’s brother-in-law given interior design contract for Malta Gaming Authority and Identity Malta offices
Martin Camilleri, whose sister Caroline is married to Brian Tonna of Nexia BT, has undertaken the interior design refurbishment of the Malta Gaming Authority’s new offices at Smart City and also the interiors of Identity Malta’s offices (Identity Malta was set up in 2013). He did this through his company MC Design & Build Ltd.
Attempts this evening to contact Mr Camilleri for comment were unsuccessful.
Brian Tonna’s firm, Nexia BT, was itself given €170,000 worth of business in direct orders by the Malta Gaming Authority over the last three years, most of it last year.
Mr Camilleri has also moved into offices at Smart City, where the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Keith Schembri, has been a director since April 2013.
Caroline Tonna separated from her husband not long ago after catching him in flagrante with his secretary in Nexia BT’s office in the family home, a bungalow in Marsascala which is now on the market. Brian Tonna has since set up home with the woman in question, also named Caroline, while Mrs Tonna has moved with their children to a luxury flat on the Ta’ Xbiex Sea Front, where her husband pays the rent.
Mrs Tonna is herself a political appointee and the beneficiary of Labour Party cronyism, having been appointed to the board of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts in 2013.
Mrs Tonna and Martin Camilleri are the daughter and son of Tony Camilleri, who was private secretary to Public Works Minister Lorry Sant in the Labour governments led by Dom Mintoff and Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, and to Mintoff’s Health Minister, Vincent Moran.
