Things get even camper at the Office of the Prime Minister

Occupy London comes to Malta. It’s good to see some signs of life – tents are going up outside the Prime Minister’s Office this morning , because they’re not “authorised”, the police are panicking and have called for assistance.

This is exactly what happened in London (except that there they had staying power and I hope they will here too): if the political bosses and the police move them along, they’re perceived by the public as fascist and totalitarian bullies who want to shut up dissent. And if they let them stay, they have another set of problems. I say let them stay: it makes Malta look less, not more, weird and corrupt.

But let’s hope Joseph-and-Michelle (where is she?) spare us a House of Cards scenario of feeding the demonstrators – because that would be truly sickening. The rest of us should take them supplies ourselves. So if you’re in Valletta, show your support and take along some food and drink. Anybody who’s willing to stand up to this nasty, corrupt government – for whatever purpose – deserves the support of everyone else, even if you don’t agree with them at a personal level.
