The Prime Minister is warning off the investigatory authorities

Every time the Prime Minister says to the media that Keith Schembri has his trust, that he is going nowhere, and says it with a look of cold anger at his interrogators, what he is doing in reality is warning off the investigators and fiscal authorities. He’s saying: “Don’t touch him.”

Yesterday, he even defended, coldly and angrily, his co-conspirator and henchman, with his trail of offshore companies in several jurisdictions, by saying that he “has been demonised by some people” and that in any case, he is “no longer involved in business”. By communicating to the investigatory authorities the fact that he is prepared to lie to protect him, the Prime Minister is warning them off. The rule of law has crumbled.
