The Times of Malta has picked up the story broken by this website, that Central Bank Governor-designate Alfred Mifsud took large cash payments in 1997/98 from the Malta representative of the US company which supplied banking software to Mid Med Bank when Mifsud was Mid Med chairman in 1996-1998.
The newspaper has spoken to the Finance Ministry, which replied that the reports are being looked into as part of the (mandatory) due diligence process for the appointment of a Central Bank governor.
