Military coup in Turkey tonight

There has been a coup d’etat by the Turkish military, which has seized power in Ankara and Istanbul “to protect the democratic order and maintain human rights”.
The statement was released by email and reported on television as tanks moved in to the cities, securing key locations.
Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said “The government elected by the people remains in charge. This government will only go when the people say so.”
All flights from Istanbul’s airport have been cancelled.
