UPDATED/Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri flew out of Malta together yesterday evening
Konrad Mizzi, Malta’s de facto energy minister, and Keith Schembri, the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, boarded the Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul together yesterday. Istanbul airport is used by people flying from Malta to take connecting flights to other destinations east of Europe: they were in transit to Singapore, where they will be ‘inspecting’ the pre-used and refurbished floating gas storage unit that will be anchored next to the new power station.
The mystery here is why these two are acting as though they are the clients, when the client is a private company made up of corrupt individuals – Electrogas Malta Ltd – who pre-arranged their power station deal with the Labour Party before the last general election.
The Prime Minister is in Singapore already, inspecting the vessel personally. So of course it is absolutely essential that Keith Schembri inspects it too.
Earlier this year it was revealed that Mizzi and Schembri had conspired together to set up companies in Panama, sheltered for greater secrecy by trusts in New Zealand, just a few days after the Labour government was elected in March 2013.
