Back to the Golden Years of Labour: they’ve arraigned the victim of attempted murder, instead of the perpetrator

The Times of Malta reports this morning that Gheorge Popa, 39, is to be arraigned in court and charged with causing slight injuries to Dom Mintoff’s daughter, 65, and Dom Mintoff’s grandson, 32.

Popa himself was stabbed by one of those two, using what police sources say was “a large kitchen knife”, in the abdomen. His stomach was punctured, which put him in hospital for two weeks, most of it in intensive care. Without that treatment, his wounds would have been fatal.

Yes, Popa should be arraigned for his involvement in the brawl and for causing slight injuries to the other two. But Yana Mintoff and Daniel Mainwaring should have been arraigned as soon as the courts opened the next morning and charged with the attempted murder of Gheorge Popa. Instead, they have not been arraigned at all. And he has been, the minute he was released from hospital.

This is beyond disgraceful. It is a level of police/political corruption that undermines the very foundations of what keeps this society safe.
