Michael Gonzi – never mind

Published: November 23, 2010 at 5:03pm

This witty email by a wannabe Kurt Farrugia is currently doing the rounds. I imagine redneck supporters are so accustomed to hearing the prime minister called GONZI that they don’t know what his first name is.

At least they know what he looks like because they see his face sometimes on Super One. Thank heavens for small mercies.

  2. Hibernating from Malta says:

I am not surprised at all. Today I heard about a case where the journalist on l-Orizzont named a particular person giving a speech during the ceremony wrongly after heavily misquoting his graduation speech, never mind the PM’s name.

  3. a bugeja says:

    Unbelievable !

  4. VR says:

    Am not surprised

  5. ciccio2010 says:

The correct version should of course say: Lawrence Gonzi: Peace of mind.

  6. Riya says:

Kurt Farrugia and his friends at Maltastar are all without a mind, and these are all the pupils of the wannabe Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muscat.

  7. A.Charles says:

    Fottejta, ibni!

  8. claire abela triganza says:

As a girl I used to think that Mintoff was his first name. It was very rare to hear people talking about others using both their name and surname. Then KMB as if he didn’t have a name, and Fenech Adami as if he didn’t have a first name. But almost everybody said Fredu Sant.

A big confusion between the PM and the Archbishop.

    • pm says:

      Claire,
There WAS a time when Fenech Adami did not have a name: at least according to the Socialist Malta Television. Afterwards, we knew him much better with just his name: EDDIE

  9. Esteve says:

And it’s a pretty old joke at that… I saw it a few years ago with George Bush as the victim.
Now, was it George Bush or George Washington… damn I always confuse those two.

Daphne, surely you must have realised it’s not Kurt Farrugia’s wit but it’s plagerised

  11. Grezz says:

It looks like they have never heard of the names Albert and Isaac, either; nor the surname Galilei.

  12. Lomax says:

Hmmm..is this for real? I mean, is it really doing the rounds? And, above all, is it possible that whoever created it doesn’t know what the Prime Minister’s name is?

  13. interested bystander says:

It does not surprise me that people treat politics like soap operas in Malta. The person who put this together is either very smart or incredibly stupid. Guess what my money’s on.

  14. Joseph Micallef says:

Wanting to continue this idiotic parody I would be tempted to write Kurt Farrugia – Absent Mind, but not in the sense of forgetfulness but of total physical inexistence of the necessary matter.

  15. bri says:

The wannabe does not know the prime minister’s first name?

  16. TROY says:

So when exactly did Michael become Prime Minister?

  17. Matt says:

Lawrence Gonzi is really in great company. We all know something about these giants but it was Gonzi who managed to put the finances in order that enabled Malta to enter the euro zone.

It was Gonzi who managed to put the Nationalist Party in government for the third consecutive time. No other Maltese politician in history has ever accomplished this feat.

The never mind people have chicken brains and they are not even embarrassed.

    • ciccio2010 says:

Matt, I know what you mean, but your second paragraph just needs a little, shall I say historical, correction. I think it should read: “It was Gonzi who managed to put the Nationalist Party in government for a third consecutive time with a majority of the people behind him. No other Maltese politician in history has ever accomplished this feat.”
This is because in 1981 another PM put his party in government for a third time, against the will of the majority of the Maltese people.

  18. Faiy Liquid says:

You know, I actually think it was intentional, and that they WERE trying to be witty but it kind of backfired because they didn’t factor in that the prime minister’s brother, Michael Gonzi, is alive and kicking as a member of parliament and well-known doctor.

You know how they like to compare the prime minister to the late archbishop Michael Gonzi? I think that’s what they’re doing here.

Shame it blew up in their faces.

    • ciccio2010 says:

If they are referring to the late Archbishop Michael Gonzi, it is likely to backfire seriously. Because it shows that they are still anti-clerical and do not miss an opportunity to start a crusade against the Church. Old habits die hard.

    • Joseph Micallef says:

“they WERE trying to be witty”

      who Kurt Farrugia?

If you honestly think that is possible, I can safely say you are one of the kindest empathic persons on this land.

  21. red nose says:

It looks like that Kurt and Company do not have anything serious to do. At least they could have asked what name was given at baptism to our Prime Minister, before trying to make us laugh at their inanities

  22. Kurt Cobain says:

    Never mind.

  23. Galian says:

In my opinion, the name Michael came to their minds (if you can call the space between their ears that!) not because of Lawrence’s brother but because of the late archbishop!

  24. Anthony says:

    PL ?

    Mind you ever.

  25. Riya says:

If they are refering to the late Archbishop Michael Gonzi, which to me is very unlikely, I really don’t understand what these people actually want to do with their party and their political beliefs in Malta? I say this in the context that when you open a polyical discussion with labour supporters, and you mention the atrocities and the misery and currupt life the Maltese people experienced in the 70’s and 80’s during labour administrations, they tell you ‘but that was the past and that was Mintoff and not the MLP’! Do they want to forget about the past or not? And if they want to forget about the past, is it because they are ashamed of what their party in government did during its time in office. Nationalists supporters are not ashamed of their past, and I strongly believe that all the nationalists think the way I do and we are all proud of the achivements our party in government managed to obtain for our Island.

I sent a comment to timesofmalta.com asking how much the President’s salary is, but for some reason or another it was not uploaded. Without knowing this amount, this news item loses 90% of its interest to readers.
