The Ministry of Education should be made responsible for road signs and markings
Because the Transport Ministry is clearly not up to the job, which isn’t surprising, really. Evarist Bartolo may be up to his neck in corrupt canvassers, but at least he’s literate.
Either that, or the Transport Ministry has got to give orders for all stencils to be marked showing which is the right way up. The problem with illiteracy is easily solved by using those symbols you get on crates and packing-boxes: an open umbrella, say, or a wine glass.
Yesterday this was painted on a Rabat street. And today, I received the one below from Hal Lija.
In this case, unlike the one in Rabat, the individual letters are the right way round – so something else is clearly required beyond symbols which show which way to put down the stencil. Perhaps a pattern book showing in which order they should go?
