Robber barons

The Montreal Gazette has quoted a Canadian government spokesman who said that Ben Hassan Trabelsi, who became a ‘billionaire businessman’ after his sister married Tunisia’s Ben Ali, has flown into Montreal on a private jet and applied for political asylum.

It’s amazing that Joseph Muscat has not suggested yet that we offer him asylum in Malta to make the most of his repatriated billions (you know, just like we did with Suha Arafat, the terrorist’s widow, with her millions in aid intended for the Palestinian people, that Yasser squirrelled away in Switzerland).

What a country, honestly. Our prime minister and minister of foreign affairs fail to pronounce themselves – except for the now standard travel warning – while the opposition leader can’t think beyond nabbing the tourists while his freshly appointed shadow minister for foreign affairs, the ghastly George Vella, is probably busy trying to work out how to be an anti-EU foreign minister in an EU member state.

Muscat is a dangerous person. He must clarify what he said. The politics of milking the misfortunes of others are not the basis of a stable industry or economy.

It sounds like this mentality would approve of the looting that is going on – ‘la ma hemm hadd, ahtaf!’ Are these the values the PL cherish? Stumble upon the weak, take advantage, I just thought of a good Labour slogan for the next election ‘tomorrow never comes!’ jew ‘Ghada Ma Jisbah Qatt’.

Muscat is a dangerous person. He cannot clarify what he said because he doesn’t know what it means.

The man is dangerous because he’s stupid. It’s a shame the rest of us have to suffer him.

If it is true (a big “IF”) I hope that Canada refuses his request. It’s bad enough that most of the former oligarchs and ex-despots already reside happily in London, Paris, Geneva etc after lining their pockets from their countries.

“It was deeply amusing to Egyptians that Obama – in Cairo itself, after his election – had urged Arabs to grasp freedom and democracy. These aspirations disappeared entirely when he gave his tacit if uncomfortable support to the Egyptian president on Friday. The problem is the usual one: the lines of power and the lines of morality in Washington fail to intersect when US presidents have to deal with the Middle East. Moral leadership in America ceases to exist when the Arab and Israeli worlds have to be confronted.”

Robert Fisk? Fisk is nothing but a biased anti-American and anti-Israeli writer, and as a consequence criticizes any one who has connections to the US or to Israel.

When Tunisia sort out their problems who knows what will happen – please God a democratic government and then we may just regret these proposed short term strategies at the expense of the misfortunes of others.

I wonder why you blame Muscat. He is just the loudspeaker of those around him.

  6. Bob says:

Idiots fell the need to say something all the time.

I see that Muscat is a dilettante: even if we don’t advertise, some of Sharm el Sheik’s and Tunisia’s – not to mention Algeria’s – tourists will come to Malta. This is like last year’s tourists who came to Malta to avoid Greece and Spain’s protests and strikes.

    “mors tua vita mea”
You don’t need to advertise when people are ready to buy your wares.

    The problem lies elsewhere:

If we have a hide and seek in our waters we won’t have any tourists and cruise ships around, no matter how much we advertise.

Muscat qal il-lejla li jrid jaghmel progett ambizzjus ghal Ghawdex, lli tant ihaddem nies li il-Maltin irridu jibdew imorru Ghawdex biex jahdmu.

Fiz-zmien Mintoff li Joseph Muscat irrid jerga jikkupjah, kienu imorru il-Maltin jahdmu Ghawdex, iva, mhux ghax kien hemm progett ambizzjus bhal ta Joseph Muscat, imma kien transfer vendikattiv ghax ma taghmilx dak li kienu jridu huma tal-Lejber.

Hallina, Guz – inti b`min qed tit*****k? Tippruvax timmpressjona lil Ghawdxin ghax mahniex imzazen bhal dawk li kien hemm quddiemek.
