GUEST POST: Serious allegations cannot be properly assessed in 48 hours
This was sent in for publication.
It is soul destroying to see a once proud party consume itself like this. It is so damaging to the whole country, so dangerous to have no Opposition, to have a government that can act with almost total impunity.
We all look on, waiting for someone to act like the adult in the room, to give these bickering little people a proper telling-off and press the reset button.
For goodness sake, someone needs to say what has to be said: that serious allegations that have been made, and that they cannot be properly assessed within 48 hours. The process must be restarted from scratch within a given timeframe, and that process must allow for proper due diligence. A new election process would also allow new candidates to come forward.
Nobody wants to prolong things, but just sitting back and watching this appalling train wreck unfold is simply not an option.
Simon Busuttil – you must wish you were a thousand miles away, but you are still needed to guide the party to the right decision at this critical time.
