Michelle Muscat: it’s all about “the treatment”

The British national newspaper, The Telegraph, yesterday ran a story about Conservative MP Brian Binley and a freeloading trip he took to Malta.

The story really exposes the difference in attitude between the Maltese and British system, and its press and public, towards what MPs and other politicians may or may not do in terms of accepting hospitality from businesses, individuals and organisations.

You really need to read this newspaper report (I’ve added the link below), but what you need to read most of all is the undercover journalist’s direct quotation of how the prime minister and his wife were introduced to the group (“a two-man parliamentary delegation”) and Mrs Muscat’s response of “OMG” how wonderful that is because it means they get “more treatment”.

The Telegraph, yesterday:

(…)

When the MPs met Malta’s recently elected prime minister and his wife at the party in Valletta, Mr Binley introduced them as a “two-man parliamentary delegation”.

“Oh my God, that’s good”, said the prime minister’s wife.

“I think it’s better”, replied Mr Binley.

“It’s better actually. You get more treatment”, said the prime minister’s wife with a laugh.

    MORE treatment?

Does this woman even know what she sounds like?

    • etil says:

Was she referring to some ‘beauty treatment’? She sounds like a child left alone in a toy shop. I have a feeling that Mr. Binley was taking the mickey and she did not realise it.

    • M. says:

Well, her husband has pimped Malta. Perhaps she thinks everyone should behave like a whore, herself and her husband included.

    • Min Jaf says:

Madoff x’misthijja ta’ nies. ‘More treatment’, jigifieri jigu jittrattati ahjar, ghaliex, taf int, dawn politikanti. Jigifieri parti mil-High Society.

Dnub ma stiedniethomx ghal-High Tea biex jiltaqghu mal-Infantas u jiehdu ritratt maghhom.

Kemm hi mara komuni jahasra. With some people at the helm of the country, it really would be better to give up Maltese citizenship, or auction the passport off. Soon enough, we’ll be relegated to a corner on our own, face to the wall.

  3. Steve says:

My first reaction was “unbelievable!”. But then I thought, “It’s actually scary how believable it has become.”

  4. May Cassar says:

‘Treatment’: is this two-man parliamentary delegation after a face lift?

  5. Anthony Briffa says:

She is being true to her word – making the most out of being in power (her husband is, but that’s not how she sees it) by getting all the ‘treatment’ she can.

  6. Etoille says:

What a miskina of a woman. Obviously having Darling Elena round her neck hasn’t been much help. Qishom id-di w id-do

  7. P Shaw says:

No wonder Henley are convinced that the Maltese are so stupid and are easy material to be exploited.

  8. kjd says:

More treatment? What is she after, a massage with a ‘epi endink’?

  9. bookworm says:

If she would like to get more treatment, she should go to Natius.

  10. vanni says:

I read this extract four times, read the original twice, and for the life of me, I can’t make head or tail of what she is trying to say.

Good as in what? That the delegation is made up of two persons?

And what treatment is she banging on about? Has Mr. Binley some medical condition we are not privy to?

  11. Bill Hopkinson says:

“How you say? Oh my golly gosh.”

  12. Jason says:

It is perfectly clear from the comments made by these two UK MPs that they have already picked up the general vibe of this Labour government.

  13. Natalie says:

Oh! So it’s that kind of ‘treatment’. Honestly she put me off track, I thought she was referring to some kind of beauty treatment. I think she meant ‘attention’.

Really, I can’t understand how we can boast we’re bilingual when most people can’t string two words together in either language without making some sort of grammatical/ phonetical mistake. Sangwich anyone?

  14. Toyger says:

What does she mean by getting more treatment?
