More hot stuff from di blokkerz

Published: September 6, 2008 at 5:13pm

The Maltese language has a new word: blokkerz. This doesn’t mean people like me, who write a blog, because of course, not only must we mispronounce the word and then spell it accordingly, but we must also get the meaning wrong. So blokkerz are people who post comments beneath the news stories on the on-line version of The Times, which isn’t a blog at all but an internet-based news source.

Here are more thrilling remarks from those people who have found a voice and who want to make sure we hear it whether we want to or not (the hanut tat-te is not enough). And get a load of the one who speaks about a Final Solution, completely unaware of its historical and political implications – or maybe he is aware, and the moderator at The Times failed to pick it up. Heil Hitler!

1. Admittedly, I am very sharp against those (especially our own compatriots) who dare mudsling our beloved Country and Nation.

2. at this rate we would have a Coloured (never say blach or they would sue you) President here in Malta.

3. if you are a real christan you should put up some of these illegals in your home for a couple of weeks then you would be in a position to preach to us. One other thing. these migrants will never become maltese. having maltese citizenship doesn’t make one maltese just as being baptised a christian doesn’t make one a christian.

4. They don’t have much scope of earning a great deal of money and they only look for manual work as even this is much better than their living in Africa and they would encourage their mamas, their papas, their brothers and their pregnant sisters too. With the way things are going they will soon fill up the maternity wards in our hospitals. And we fought for Independence to chuck out the British who gave us the European culture we enjoy today. How more naive can we be?

5. We are gradually becoming a country in which ILLEGAL immigrants are short of being OUR MASTERS rather than our DANGEROUS INTRUDERS. FOOLISHNESS and PIGHEADEDNESS are not prerequisites to be a good practicing Christian. Dragging Christianity to shut up sense, truth and rationality is UNETHICAL and SHAMEFUL. WE should all strive towards UNITY amongst ourselves to protect our Nation. This is a National and NOT a Local Party issue.
The FINAL SOLUTION is to rid ourselves of ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who forced
themselves on us ABUSING the laws of our land and outdated treaties.

6. I need Simon Cassar’s address. He’s so generous. Next time I am broke I’ll walk into
his home, sit down, order steak, some wine, a mobile card, brand new clothes
(disigner pls Simon), then take his money, his wife and his daughter. I’m very much
certain he’ll be more than happy to accomodate me.

7. We should ask ” Where is that Big Guy with BIG HANDS ” We have been promised, Am I correct? Il MEPA what a fars!!!! Should resigne en bloc.

Finally, I found someone who realises that the timesofmalta comments are not blogs, but just comments. Poorly implemented, too.

@ DCG Do we really Have to see the trash from The Times on this notebook ? Please, please, leave it where it belongs. Nobody, I am sure, needs reminding that 50% of the population, at least, is moronic. We are reminded of this sad fact every five years.

  3. Corinne Vella says:

    J. Azzopardi: Try saying that on one of those comment-boards. That’ll win you lots of friends.

  4. Mark Aloisio says:

The drivel that many of these people write is just amazing. Yet whoever at the Times has to read and filter those comments often allows the most appaling racial and ethnic epithets to be published. On the other hand, he/she yesterday chose to delete parts of my response where I called those who pass such remarks racists and bigots. Go figure…

  5. Amanda Mallia says:

Mark Aloisio – I know exactly what you mean. The Times have often censored – and in a few cases totally omitted – my comments aimed at the blatant racists and bigots. Maybe they allow the horrendous comments through as a perverse form of entertainment for the masses.

  6. J.Azzopardi says:

When I say poorly implemented, I mean the technology behind it. Such a flat commenting system leaves much to be desired. Most modern blogs, and Daphne’s blog doesn’t count among them, support threading systems, where one can reply to other posts directly.

(Daphne – All blogs are modern by definition. The system you mention is used only where it is thought unnecessary for anybody to moderate – for which read control – the comments. Neither Allied Newspapers, which operates The Times news site, nor I, who operate this one, can afford to have something that goes out under our name turned into a babel of libel, slander, foul language and intrusive gossip about the private lives of others who may not even be public persons. There is no way on earth that I am going to allow a system which permits people to reply directly to others, and I am quite sure that the people over at The Times feel exactly the same way, even though they let through rather more than they should (and The Times site is NOT a blog but the on-line version of a newspaper). There is a world of difference between something on the internet for which a named individual or company, with a reputation to protect, takes responsibility and the internet forums you mention, with threads replete with slander, for which no discernible individuals, group of individuals or company is responsible.)

Dear Ms Galizia (may I call you Daphne?)

Over the last few days I’ve read some articles which you’ve written. I agreed with most of your views, and some of your comments had me laughing out loud. At least there’s the option for debate in your, in my opinion, excellent writing.

And I’ve read articles about you – such as how people tried to burn you, your family, and your home. No chance of debate there, then? One can disagree, by all means, but to attempt murder rather than debate an issue? That’s barbaric.

I hope you can continue to find the courage to keep saying what you think. You’re very brave. Good luck!

    Kind regards

    Kay McMahon

(Daphne – Thank you for reminding some of the people who read this blog that they live in a society where it is considered quite normal to try to get rid of the people one doesn’t agree with by setting fire to their homes while they are asleep. We have rather more in common with Sicily than we think, and not in a good way.)
