More howlers from Maltastar

Published: November 7, 2008 at 1:06am

Workers are being reduced and the vast majority of the Maltese population is being eaten.

“The General Retailers’ and Traders’ Union said that the 2009 budget is “too big a price for the middle class”, while the General Workers’ Union said that industrialists have informed the union that they cannot survive the crunch and want to reduce workers or reduce working hours.”

“Both statements were made on Thursday in two separate press conferences, reveal a situation in Malta which shows that the budget measures and the imposition of new energy and electricity bills are eating up the very vast majority of the Maltese population.”

I wonder what it feels like – being eaten up by an electricity bill? We must really begin to watch it, now that bills have taken on a life of their own with a penchant for gobbling up humans, must we not?

    … Maltastar write-ups make fantastic scripts for slash-horror movies…..

“the budget measures and the imposition of new energy and electricity bills are eating up the very vast majority of the Maltese population.”

    Aaaaaarghh!!!!!

    SHOCKING, isn’t it?

Will the GRTU members be using the machine from “Honey, I Shrink The Kids” to “reduce” workers?

    Shocking? More like tear-jerking.

  6. Steve says:

A few blog posts back, I wrote defending the Maltese and their use of (a second language) English. What I can’t defend or excuse is that kind of writing in an English language paper. The man in the street may not have to be 100% fluent, but the papers have a responsibility to be as perfect as possible.

  7. Kenneth Cassar says:

    @ S: Yes, you’re right…but shocking-electricity – get it? ;)

  8. Tino says:

Checked the web-site. The article is as follows:

….they cannot survive the crunch and would be laying off workers and working hours.

    and

…electricity bills are eating up the income of the majority of the Maltese people.

    makes me doubt….

[Daphne – Makes you doubt? What you’ve just told us is that the people at Maltstar.com are avidly keeping track of this blog and using me as a proof-reader. I copied and pasted the text direct from their website yesterday, which means they changed it when they realised people were laughing at them. GLAD TO BE OF SERVICE, KURT! Hilarious.]

And all along we were told global warming would extinguish the human race. Turns out Maltastar were one step ahead….and in the process re-wrote the food chain.

Sheets of A4 paper are consuming Maltese citizens! If we are lucky enough they might just decimate Joey il-bidwi and the rest of his cronies. Stuff like this just makes my day.

  10. Harry Purdie says:

I was ‘shocked’ also, but immediately switched to candles. Hopefully, they are less aggressive.

  11. Malcolm Buttigieg says:

Language apart, my dear Daphne, and I must say that you do have a strong point on the matter, you tend to miss the wood for the trees. But what is new in that, I humbly ask. I suppose that you and your comrades are not among those workers who are now on a 4 day working week. Probably, many of you could not care less, let the elves perish! Also, you probably have enough income to pay the bills at the end of the month. Good for you.

[Daphne – Sweetheart, I may have many shortcomings, but missing the wood for the trees is not one of them. Part of my work involves spotting the wood for people and organisations who can’t see it themselves. In fact, I could work wonders with your Labour Party and would turn it around in a matter of months, without any kumitati and sotto-kumitati and ghaqdiet ta’ konsulenti. But that would involve sacking people and bringing in others, and a change of mentality and I don’t like your faces anyway, so that’s out. I don’t have comrades. Mario Vella, Evarist Bartolo and Alfred Sant had comrades. I have enough income to pay the bills at the end of the month because I work like a dog and don’t clock in at 9am and clock off at 5pm, leaving my work at my desk and not thinking about it until the next day. It’s called initiative. You should try it sometime. I left school at 17 and used my brains thereafter.]

@Daphne “the people at Maltstar.com are avidly keeping track of this blog and using me as a proof-reader”

So you refused to work for MaltaToday, and yet you have no problems in now working for MaltaStar, get your priorities right, Daphne!

  13. Malcolm says:

If you left school at 17 then considering your knowledge and wit, you must truly be a genius. Actually, that is not far from the truth. In fact, I do admire your energy and your writing style. The content sometimes is not focused on the bigger issues, although petty arguments like the one in this section tend to liven up the content of the site.

It is obvious that you are a pro-active person, no one doubts that! But please, prior to partonising others and boasting about how hard you work, you should perhaps know that I work from 5:00am till 1:00am almost every day, this website being one of the few distractions and that is a sincere compliment.

Like you, I have an objective in life, although of a different nature, and nothing to do with politics.

In my case, it is that of making my business the best in the Med area in ten years’ time.

By the way, I have not left school yet, and never will. I do not think that you have either (no sarcasm intended). Learning, be it at school or elsewhere should be a continous process, an integral part of life.

    Cheers Daphne and happy work!

    On to my business.

[Daphne – Tell us what you’re working at; I’m curious.]

  14. Lino Cert says:

    @Malcolm
I also work 18 hours a day, and also find this blog a welcome entertaining break every few hours. Thanks Daphne , and please keep it up, when you abandon us some days I get withdrawal symptoms!

[Daphne – Take care, or they’ll put duty on blogs: 0.01 cent per hit.]

  15. A Camilleri says:

@Malcolm: 5.00am to 1.00am nearly every day? That can’t be healthy for you nor efficient for the business.
