Bakers hope to avoid increase in price of Maltese bread
Bakers are clutching at the last straws in trying not to increase the price of Maltese bread as subsidies on Maltese bread are no longer in place and the market is open to competition.“We are still bearing the toll,” said Raymond Briffa, president of the Bakers’ Cooperative when contacted by The Malta Independent yesterday in anticipation of a meeting which is to be held this morning between Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and the bakers. They are expected to ask Mr Fenech about who will be making good for the increase in costs in the hope that an alternative to increasing the price of Maltese loaves is found.
