Jew b'xejn jew xejn

It would have been a whole lot better in the long run if the government and the Curia hadn’t succumbed to the battle-cry of ‘jew b’xejn jew xejn’ and allowed church schools to carry on charging fees for their services. They’re not b’xejn anyway, because the money which the government uses to subsidise those schools comes from….yes, you guessed it.

And we would have avoided that annual farce of a lottery, with crowds of parents queuing for forms with a ‘let’s try our luck, majtezwel’ attitude, the loss of the schools’ essential character and identity, and their gradual decline into glorified state schools.

Church schools owed over €5 million in arrears

By the end of 2007, the government owed church schools €5,065,828 in arrears. The amount for 2008 was still being calculated because the exercise included reconciliation of amounts due with payments made. The information was given by Education Minister Dolores Cristina while answering a parliamentary question by Evarist Bartolo (PL).

That KMB slogan was the first thing to come to mind when I read the news item on The Times earlier on.

“Glorified state schools” – couldn’t agree with you more. Went to my old school a few days back – I shouldn’t have gone. Definitely not what it used to be. Ironically it’s still regarded as one of the best schools on the island, which makes me wonder what the other schools must have become.

KMB has so much to answer for completely screwing up education in Malta. I still remember being locked out of school (a completely private school, not even church school). Having said that I also blame PN for not righting things again. But still, KMB’s is yet another grave I will spit on.

hello Daphne…need your help regarding something I found on youtube which involves bomb pranks in Malta. Would like your suggestions as to how I can go about it since it involves my family. Sorry for sending here but can’t find a separate email.

[Daphne – Do you need to know how to go about getting a video removed?]

Yes please… my family has been a victim of a prank… I’m not spoilsport…I laughed ..but something tells me that by these kind of pranks might hurt somebody. The video I’m talking about is called “Bomb in ta’ Pinu Church Gozo”. See also “bomb in Kalkara 2” (if the dog was not on a leash he could have run away – it’s no joke when it happens just because of a joke).

This is the video’s owner reply regarding my request to have the video of ta pinu removed…

“hanfemek naqa siehbi ! jien lanqas jekk jigi il-kapellan tal-knisja ta’Pinu mux hanehhih il-video ghax dak il-video vera ghamel hit, u fuq kollox kemm intom strambi man ! din cajta kinet ta, u cajta sabiha alarida minajr ma ikun hat qet jistenija, ghamilt kemm ghaw minn u supperf jaqq……! ”

[Daphne – You can petition YouTube to have it removed if you have a valid reason.]
