Labour’s brilliant (for all the wrong reasons) English-language news portal www.maltastar.com has been off line for yonks. For the past couple of months or so, its homepage has carried this message:

maltastar.com is upgrading…

maltastar.com is currently offline to undergo a major upgrade. Once back online in a few weeks’ time, you, our esteemed readers, will get back your favourite online source of news with constant updates, greater interactivity, and many other new features.

We will be back online in the coming weeks. Check this space for the latest updates.

To ensure that you get the news website that you want, we would be grateful if you could let us know what you wish to have in the new maltastar.com. We are interested to know which features of the current format you wish to retain, and which you would like improved. We would also like to know what new features, and themes, you would like to find in maltastar.com.

For helping us out with your ideas, you will get the chance of winning a free flight to a European destination, courtesy of Hamilton Travel.*

Send us an e-mail on ideas@maltastar.com, with your ideas and opinions. We will then send you details on how to submit your details to get in the draw for the prize.
(Deadline: Sunday 14 December 2008.)

* Taxes and fuel surcharge fees excluded.

The party can’t even get a revamp of its news portal together, then it tells us it’s capable of reforming the hospital waiting-list problem in Seven Simple Steps jotted down by Anthony Zammit in between getting himself tied up by nasty men in hoods and by his rival Michael Farrugia. Jahasra.

Give them a break. This is a MAJOR upgrade they are working on. Not something to take lightly. I’ve sent them ideas of what they can include in this upgrade; I’m waiting with bated breath to see if I’ve won their free flight to a European destination, courtesy of Hamilton Travel*

In the meantime, these were my suggestions.

    1. Web 3.0 technology, so advanced it hasn’t even been invented yet.
    2. A virtual Large Hadron Collider.
    3. An integrated earthquake application – called “Terremot tal-Lejber” which will make the screen shake if you click on it.
    4. Integrated anti-spyware to prevent leaks of Labour documents to the Nationalist press.
    5. An online speed-dating and social network application for young Laburisti called FEJSBUK.
    6. An online “STEPS generator” that automatically generates seven quick steps to solving any of our nation’s problems.
    7. A google-maps application that would map out incoming immigrant boatloads, supplemented by an immigrant-insultometer.
    8. An agony aunt forum for disgruntled housewives, administered by Michelle Muscat.
    9. An online calender clocking the current consecutive number of days Labour have spent in opposition.
    10. An adult section called RED TOUCH FUN, featuring ex-Brigata laburista POM-POM girls, now performing as MILFS.

[Daphne – 11. A ‘how to climb aboard the European gravy-train’ helpline. 12. Visiting maltastar.com with Firefox 3 triggers a security alert warning that the website has been flagged as an “attack site” by Google:

    http://safebrowsing.clients.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://www.maltastar.com/

Firefox users aren’t the only ones who get the tip-off. A Google search for maltastar.com results in a “this site may harm your computer” warning:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Amaltastar.com

According to Google, unsuspecting users visiting maltstar.com are risking infecting their computer with malware. It seems that the MITTS servers haven’t been the only ones to be preyed on.

[Daphne – That’s hilarious. And they tell us they’re busy upgrading? L-anqas news portal m’huma kapaci jaghmlu suret in-nies.]

  6. David J Camilleri says:

How can they present something smart? Labour also thinks that we might vote PL by mistake instead of PN – hence the change in the name.

See also today’s The Sunday Times – interview with KMB. He still thinks that the majority of us Maltese are foolish enough to swallow his stories of the (in)famous 1980s, or does he think that we, in our 40s (and who were in our teens then), will ever forget that horrific era?

  7. Lino Cert says:

    @David J Camilleri

Your description sounds typical of the Labour Party as a whole:

“suspicious activity over the last 90 days, malicious ware, suspicious content, adware, 36 scripting exploits and 2 trojans.”

[Daphne – Thanks for the giggle: “The accused was brought to court in front of Magistrate Dr Michael Mallia and charged of assaulting a police officer whilst on duty, of resisting police orders, of damaging one of the Corpse’s cars, and of relapsing amongst other offences.” I wonder how much the Corpse paid in registration tax.]

The PL can’t even manage to keep a Hi-5 ever since Joseph Muscat has become their leader

let alone an e-newspaper and a country!!!!!!

  10. Amanda Mallia says:

Tessie – http://www.maltastar.com is still being “upgraded” – around two months down the line. With such inefficiency, can anyone imagine them running the country?
