Here's another one who thought The People were behind him

I knew this would come in useful one day. People who have no professional experience in quantifying support make the mistake of writing motivation and ‘where the person is coming from’ right out of the equation. And then they get a flawed result – really flawed, not flawed like Astrid’s EIAs.

Astrid Vella is making that mistake now. Harry Vassallo made it a year ago this month. Read on.

“I have been canvassing my district since May 2007. None of the results appear in nationwide polls. We will make it to parliament in 2008. It is time to give us feedback on what you want to see us do there once we will have our first MPs. AD has attained critical mass in some key districts which means that we will be elected in some while in others we are so close that the dilemma for ditherers is different. if they do not vote for us they will be ensuring that they get what they do not want. It pains me to gine them yet another dilemma.

However they have got quite acclimatized to choosing the corrupt over the violent and the arrogant over the incompetent. Now they have another choice> to be part of the proiblem or to be part of the solution.”
– Harry Vassallo, 3 February 2008

The similarities in approach and in the interpretation of public opinion are unnerving. Smart people don’t learn only from their own mistakes, but from other people’s too.

This might be interesting… given that you quoted him in one of your posts, and he seems to know a lot about the subject…

    Hi Daphne,

Thought you might like to get a crack at this. Will FAA retain its political neutrality in future elections?

“I cannot speak for the future as I may not even have a leading role in the committee then. But we do not regret our non-partisan decision as regards the last election.”

This snippet may be found at the “tail-end” of Astrid’s interview, titled:

[Daphne – What a coincidence. It’s highlighted in yellow and lying on my desk. Next step, political candidacy. If she has any sense, she’ll choose the only party on whose ticket she can get elected – the Nationalist Party. And if the Nationalist Party has any sense, it will ask her to stand on its ticket on the Sliema district. Titla sparata. All those who didn’t vote in the last election, or who voted AD, would be more than happy to vote for her. Solomon is my middle name.]
