More hypocrisy and veiled interests

For the life of me, I can’t understand how these statements and declarations are reported at face value without being put into context. Roderick Galdes is a MEPA employee who is also the Labour Party’s representative on the MEPA board. He would have been voting on the St John’s museum proposal. He has a huge conflict of interest on this issue, and more than that, a veiled one.

I am not surprised that Astrid Vella and FAA want us all to shut up about the St John’s debacle. With every day that passes they face embarrassment as more and more details emerge. Ah, but that’s democracy and the free press for you, Astrid! You can’t shut it up when you want to.

Museum extension application ‘still before MEPA’
The application before the Malta Environment Planning Authority for the extension of St John’s Co-Cathedral Museum has not been withdrawn, despite the declaration that the project has been shelved, the Opposition spokesman on the Authority, Roderick Galdes, said today.
“An explanation is warranted. It should be clarified whether the project is to be withdrawn or amended,” Mr Galdes said in a statement. “Public consultation should be made before, and not after new proposals are submitted,” he added.

    Just for fun:

“Float-builders seek €1.5m in government aid for Carnival village … They said that the collapse of the proposed extension of the St John’s Co-Cathedral Museum, which would have absorbed €16 million in EU funds, provided an opportunity for some of these funds to be directed to their project.”
